Mechanic/ instructor/ youth worker

At Paylos, we’re looking for a seasoned, trade-qualified mechanic who’s ready to do more than just fix cars. This role is perfect for someone who loves the idea of combining mechanical expertise with a bit of teaching and mentoring.

You’ll spend a good portion of your time servicing and repairing our fleet of large four-wheel drives and smaller vehicles. These vehicles are used off-road and need regular maintenance and the occasional on-site rescue. When you’re not in the workshop, you’ll step into a mentor role, guiding participants through basic mechanical skills, helping them build confidence and learn something hands-on.

Key Responsibilities

• Fleet Maintenance: You’ll be the go-to person for keeping our 4WDs and other vehicles in top shape. Expect to handle regular servicing, repairs, and occasional field recoveries.

• Mentoring & Teaching: Lead small group sessions where you’ll teach participants the basics of automotive maintenance in a supportive, engaging way.

• Farm Maintenance (Secondary): Occasionally assist with general upkeep around our Shady Creek farm when you’re not working on vehicles or teaching.

Who We’re Looking For

• Experienced Mechanic: You’re comfortable with large 4WDs, engine rebuilds, and you can handle anything from a routine service to a complex repair.

• Aspiring Instructor: If you've ever considered stepping into an instructor’s role—like teaching at a TAFE—this is a similar opportunity. You’ll pass on your skills in a practical, real-world setting.

• Community-Minded: You have the patience, empathy, and enthusiasm to work with at-risk youth, helping them learn skills and gain confidence.
