The Indigenous Australian Lived Experience Centre Limited is a national First Nations-led organisation focused on elevating Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander lived and living experience voices across mental health, suicide prevention and Social and Emotional Wellbeing.

IALEC works alongside Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people with lived and living experience to influence policy, reform, service design, research, evaluation and sector development. Central to this work is the National Indigenous Lived Experience Group, which provides lived experience-informed advice, guidance and leadership across IALEC’s national activities.

About the Role

The National Indigenous Lived Experience Group Coordinator will coordinate and support the National Indigenous Lived Experience Group, ensuring its work is well planned, organised, documented and aligned with IALEC’s strategic priorities.

This role provides high-level coordination across NILEG activities, including meetings, work planning, recruitment, member engagement, communications, action tracking, reporting and follow-up. The role supports NILEG members to contribute their expertise and lived experience perspectives to national policy, reform, research, evaluation and sector development activities across mental health, suicide prevention and Social and Emotional Wellbeing.

The position will also coordinate online and face-to-face opportunities for NILEG to engage with government bodies, health organisations, research partners, peak bodies and non-government organisations. Through this work, the role helps elevate Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander lived experience voices and supports culturally informed systems change.

Key Responsibilities

In this role, you will:

• coordinate the day-to-day administration and operations of NILEG;
• plan, schedule and support online and face-to-face NILEG meetings, yarns, workshops, newsletters and engagement activities;
• prepare agendas, meeting papers, minutes, action registers and follow-up documentation;
• track NILEG actions, priorities, decisions and deliverables;
• maintain accurate and confidential records of NILEG activities, member engagement, opportunities, outputs and outcomes;
• support NILEG members to understand opportunities, timelines, expectations and participation requirements;
• coordinate wellbeing, debriefing or supervision supports connected to NILEG activities where required;
• coordinate opportunities for NILEG members to contribute to policy, reform, research, evaluation, consultation and sector development;
• liaise and negotiate with stakeholders seeking lived experience input;
• support NILEG member participation in meetings, consultations, advisory groups, workshops, training, wellbeing support, resource development and sector events;
• support reporting to IALEC leadership, funders and stakeholders on NILEG activity and impact;
• coordinate training and professional development opportunities identified by NILEG members;
• assist with the development, review and coordination of lived experience resources, tools and guidance materials;
• support culturally informed, trauma-informed and lived experience-informed ways of working; and
• contribute to continuous improvement of NILEG systems, templates, processes and workflows.

About You

We are looking for someone who is organised, relational, culturally grounded and confident working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander lived experience representatives, communities and stakeholders.

You will be able to coordinate meetings, records, actions, communications and engagement activities while supporting safe, respectful and meaningful participation. You will have strong communication skills, good attention to detail and the ability to manage competing priorities in a remote working environment.

You will understand the importance of cultural safety, trauma-informed practice, confidentiality and respectful engagement when working with lived and living experience.

Essential Criteria

The successful applicant will need to demonstrate:

1. Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander identity, as this is an identified role.
2. Understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander lived experience in mental health, suicide prevention, Social and Emotional Wellbeing or related areas.
3. Experience coordinating meetings, workplans, records, action registers, correspondence, events, training or engagement activities.
4. Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to build trusted relationships across diverse stakeholders, especially Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.
5. Ability to advocate for best practice in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander lived experience engagement and negotiate project design, implementation, governance and resourcing to support culturally responsive outcomes.
6. Strong organisation and time management skills, including the ability to manage competing priorities, meet deadlines and follow up actions.
7. Experience supporting co-design or consultative processes, networks, advisory groups, committees, communities, lived experience groups or stakeholder engagement processes.
8. Ability to work in culturally informed, trauma-aware and respectful ways with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, communities and lived experience representatives.
9. Strong digital capability, including Microsoft Outlook, Teams, Word and PowerPoint. Experience using online work management, travel booking or CRM systems is desirable.
10. Ability to maintain accurate, confidential and sensitive records.
11. Ability to work independently while contributing effectively as part of a team.

Desirable Criteria

The following will be highly regarded:

• relevant tertiary qualifications in community services, social sciences, mental health, public health, public policy, training and assessment, or a related field;
• knowledge of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Social and Emotional Wellbeing, mental health, suicide prevention, lived experience, advocacy or community-controlled sectors;
• experience coordinating training, workshops, resources, co-design activities or professional development programs;
• experience supporting remote teams, national networks, online meetings, cross-jurisdictional engagement or travel coordination; and
• current driver licence and willingness to travel where required.

Compliance Requirements

The successful applicant will be required to:

• hold, or be willing to obtain, a current Working with Children Check or equivalent clearance issued by their state or territory of residence;
• successfully complete a National Police Check;
• maintain any registrations, licences or compliance requirements relevant to the role; and
• notify IALEC of any change that may affect their ability to undertake the role safely or lawfully.
