About the role
About the role
The Mechanical Engineer & Estimator is responsible to support the efficient and safe operational management of projects/maintenance/repairs from tender/quotation stage to implementation and completion in the office, on site and/or in the workshop.
The Mechanical Engineer is also responsible to develop drawings and documentation required for various works as well as be a hands-on and practical support for the Workshop Supervisor and workshop teams both in the workshop and onsite.
Responsibilities
The responsibilities of the position include:
· Design, produce and interpret drawings and documentation for various works as needed.
· Supporting Workshop Supervisor and workshop team.
· Assist with hands-on and practical tasks in the workshop and on-site.
· Support the business in the preparation of information required for estimates and tenders.
· Support the business in the planning and execution of works.
· Prepare costing sheets with accurate information for billing.
· Support the control of projects to ensure delivery in accordance with time, cost and quality.
· Support project budgets and reports to monitor progress/ status.
· Support monitoring subcontractor progress claims, including evaluate subcontractor labour and materials variations.
· General administration, control and reporting of project budgets.
· Ensure works are completed on time and within budget.
· Be actively involved in all the quality & site safety planning and management, including SWMS, inspections and incident investigations.
· Ensure the standard of workmanship is compliant with required specifications and that specified inspections and tests are conducted, and records maintained to substantiate conformance.
· Support the Business Manager to facilitate preparation of client invoices and timesheet queries.
Qualifications, Knowledge/ Skills/ Experience:
Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering or equivalent
Minimum 3 years industry experience, including estimating (preferred)
CAD (Autodesk Inventor)
Excellent communication skills (both verbal and written).
Ability to liaise with existing and potential clients in a sales and engineering capacity.
High level of organisational, time management and problem-solving skills.
Sound computer literacy, particularly Microsoft suite, MS Project highly desirable.
Research, read, interpret and apply various Compliance Standards, Codes, Tech Notes, Guidelines, etc.
Documentation, quality control and cost control experience.
Communication skills, with the ability to lead and liaise with a workshop team.
Ability to produce and read drawings, including field hand sketches and computer drawings.
Ability to read, use and interpret engineering tolerances, designs, notations & symbols.
Ability to use, read and interpret manual and electronic measuring tools and equipment.
Ability to assist with hands-on and practical tasks in the workshop and on-site.
