Gadaleta Steel Fabrication is a South Australian steel fabrication business servicing clients across the Whyalla, Port Pirie and wider Upper Spencer Gulf region.

We are seeking an experienced Structural & Mechanical Estimator to join our team in Port Pirie and Whyalla. This is an excellent opportunity for an estimator who understands structural steel and mechanical fabrication and is looking to play a key role in securing and delivering quality projects.

The Role

Reporting to management, you will be responsible for preparing accurate and competitive estimates and quotations for structural steel, mechanical fabrication and associated projects.

Your responsibilities will include but not limited to:

• Reviewing engineering drawings, specifications, scope of works and tender documentation

• Preparing detailed estimates for structural steel and mechanical fabrication projects

• Completing material take-offs and assessing labour, fabrication, machining, installation and subcontractor requirements

• Obtaining and assessing supplier and subcontractor pricing

• Preparing accurate quotations and tender submissions

• Liaising with clients, engineers, suppliers and subcontractors to clarify project requirements

• Identifying project risks, exclusions, variations and potential cost impacts

• Working closely with project management, fabrication and workshop teams to ensure estimates are practical and achievable

• Maintaining estimating records, pricing databases and project documentation

• Assisting with handover of successful projects to the project delivery team

About You

We are looking for someone with:

• Previous experience in structural steel and/or mechanical estimating

• Strong ability to interpret engineering drawings and specifications

• Experience with material take-offs, fabrication processes and project costing

• A sound understanding of structural steel and mechanical fabrication

• Strong attention to detail and commercial awareness

• Excellent communication and negotiation skills

• The ability to manage multiple tenders and deadlines

• Proficiency with Microsoft Office and estimating/project management software

• A practical, hands-on understanding of workshop and fabrication environments

• A proactive approach and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team

• D& A as well as a pre employment medical is required

A trade background in structural steel, boilermaking, fabrication, mechanical fitting or a related discipline would be highly regarded.
