This position is a fixed term full-time opportunity commencing as soon as possible for a period of 6 months with the possibility of extensions and/or permanency.

This selection process may be used to fill other similar at level vacancies that arise within twelve (12) months. Applicants deemed suitable but not recommended may be considered for those roles.

About the Role

This role offers an opportunity to contribute to the development and continuous improvement of operational doctrine that supports DFES personnel and volunteers across Western Australia.

As the Doctrine Officer Natural Hazards, you will:

• Lead the development, review, implementation and promotion of doctrine relating to State Emergency Service (SES) operations and natural hazards.
• Support the continuous improvement of DFES doctrine, ensuring guidance remains contemporary, practical and aligned with operational requirements.
• Provide expert procedural advice and guidance on unit management and incident management practices.
• Collaborate with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders to develop doctrine that meets operational needs and supports best practice.
• Contribute to a dynamic and collaborative team within the Knowledge and Training Support (KaTS) business unit, helping to strengthen organisational capability and operational effectiveness.
• Participate in an operational on-call roster and provide support during emergency response activities as required.

The successful applicant will possess strong stakeholder engagement skills, sound operational knowledge, and the ability to develop clear, practical and effective doctrine that supports emergency management outcomes across the organisation.

Eligibility To Apply

You must be an Australian Citizen or hold permanent residency to be considered for permanent appointments or hold a working visa covering the term of the contract (proof must be provided with your application) to be eligible for this position.

National Police Certificate

A condition of employment for new employees of DFES is that a current National Police Certificate (less than 3 months old) is provided prior to commencement.  

Choice of Super

The Fire and Emergency Services (Superannuation Fund) Regulations 1986 prevents DFES from offering choice of super for permanent appointments. Those appointed permanently, only have the following two options:

• Remain with their existing GESB Superannuation account; or
• Join the Fire and Emergency Services Superannuation Fund (Click here for more information).

Those appointed on a fixed term contract do have choice of super, however if converted to permanent, employees will need to choose one on the two options listed above.
