About the role
As the Senior Health, Safety and Wellbeing (HSW) Advisor, you will play a key role in championing and advancing a positive safety and wellbeing culture, while supporting continuous improvement across the University. The role supports leaders, health and safety teams and governance committees to manage health and safety risks, maintain control effectiveness, and produce quality assurance evidence in line with the University’s HSW Governance, Assurance and Enterprise Risk Framework.
You will:
provide expert health and safety advice across all campuses to support effective OHS strategies, governance, legislative compliance, and continuous improvement;
coach, support and advise Health and Safety Implementation Teams (HSITs) and Health and Safety Coordination Teams (HSCTs);
identify and analyse data, trends across incidents, hazards, corrective actions and assurance data, distinguishing local issues from systemic risks, and providing clear summaries and briefing materials to inform governance forums;
coordinate and undertake regular risk assessments; and
collaboratively support and influence committees, providing guidance with assurance, evidence and escalation processes, preparing and synthesising governance materials, and reinforcing clear accountability and decision-making responsibilities.
About you
Reporting to the Head, Health, Safety and Wellbeing, you will possess proven experience interpreting OHS legislation and applying specialise knowledge to deliver coaching, support and authoritative advice. You will have demonstrated capacity to navigate a large, complex environment with multi-faceted structures and excellent communication and interpersonal skills to address a wide range of stakeholders.
You will possess:
success in identifying OHS challenges and implementing practical, results-driven solutions across diverse work settings;
ability to work autonomously and collaboratively to deliver outcomes within required timeframes;
strong analytical, conceptual and problem-solving skills coupled with attention to detail particularly when working with safety systems, data and reporting;
experience supporting incident management, injury management and return-to-work processes; and
capacity to travel between campuses and to work occasionally outside standard working hours.
All University positions must hold a valid Employer Working With Children Check (WWCC).
