The opportunityVirtus Ventures is looking for an exceptional Applied Machine Learning Scientist to join our growing innovation and technology capability.This is a hands-on technical role for someone who wants to work at the intersection of machine learning, data science and healthcare, tackling complex real-world clinical problems using rich longitudinal datasets.You’ll work alongside multi dsiciplinary teams to develop and validate machine learning approaches with the potential to improve clinical decision-making and how healthcare is delivered.
This isn’t a traditional analytics role. We’re looking for someone with strong statistical foundations who can move from exploration and experimentation through to robust, explainable and deployable machine learning. That reflects the underlying PD's focus on taking research-grade data science through to production-ready model development.

What you’ll doDevelop, test and validate predictive and machine learning models using complex clinical and longitudinal datasets.Undertake exploratory analysis to uncover meaningful patterns, relationships and new research questions.Design rigorous experiments using cross-validation, sensitivity analysis, statistical inference and robust model evaluation.Establish best practices across responsible AI, explainability, reproducibility, robustness and model validation.Work closely with clinicians and researchers to translate important clinical questions into tractable data science problems.Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to move promising research towards real-world implementation.

About youWe’re interested in someone with exceptional quantitative foundations, intellectual curiosity and a desire to solve meaningful problems.
You’ll ideally bring:A Masters, PhD or equivalent experience in Data Science, Statistics, Machine Learning, Computer Science, Bioinformatics, Computational Biology or a related quantitative discipline.Strong foundations in statistics, machine learning, experimental design and model evaluation.Advanced proficiency in Python and/or R.Experience working with complex, high-dimensional or longitudinal datasets.An ability to produce rigorous, reproducible and well-documented analytical work.Strong communication skills and an ability to work effectively across technical and non-technical teams.A collaborative, curious and pragmatic approach to solving difficult problems.Experience in healthcare, biomedical data, clinical research or regulated AI would be highly regarded, but isn't essential.
