Animals Ranger in Early Childhood Education

Smithfield Village Early Learning Centre is looking for a passionate, caring and enthusiastic Animals Ranger to join our team!

We are seeking someone who has a genuine love for animals and enjoys creating meaningful learning experiences for young children through hands-on animal care, nature play and exploration.

As our Animals Ranger, you will play an important role in supporting our Little Rangers Program – “Bringing Back the Wildhood”, helping children develop a connection with animals, nature and the environment.

Your responsibilities will include:

• 🐔 Caring for and maintaining the wellbeing of our Centre animals

• 🐰 Ensuring animal enclosures, habitats and environments are clean, safe and well maintained

• 🦎 Supporting children to respectfully interact with and learn about animals

• 🌿 Developing engaging animal and nature-based learning experiences

• 🐾 Teaching children about animal care, habitats, sustainability and responsibility

• 🥕 Maintaining animal feeding schedules and ensuring animals receive appropriate care

• 🔍 Observing animal health and wellbeing and reporting any concerns

• 🌱 Supporting gardening, sustainability and outdoor learning experiences

• 👩‍🏫 Working collaboratively with Educators to embed animal experiences into the children's daily learning

• ❤️ Role-modelling kindness, empathy, responsibility and respect towards all living creatures

The successful applicant will ideally have:

• A genuine passion and knowledge of animals

• Experience caring for animals, wildlife, farms, zoos, veterinary environments or similar

• A warm and engaging personality

• The ability to confidently interact with young children

• A strong understanding of animal welfare and safe animal handling

• Excellent communication and teamwork skills

• A positive, reliable and hands-on approach

• The ability to work independently while also being part of our Early Childhood team

• A commitment to child safety, animal welfare and creating safe learning environments

• MUST HAVE BlueCard Working with children's Check.

Early Childhood experience is desirable but not essential for the right candidate. We are particularly interested in people who can bring their unique knowledge, passion and experience with animals into an early learning environment.
