Canberra ACT | Full-time | Legal
About the Opportunity
AQMN is looking for a talented Lawyer to join our Canberra team.
This is an excellent opportunity for an early-career lawyer with approximately 1–3 years' post-admission experience who is looking to broaden their legal experience, work closely with senior leadership and support a diverse range of clients.
You will be based in our Canberra office, working directly with senior leadership and supporting AQMN's clients across a variety of legal and advisory matters.
At AQMN, we hire heavily based on attitude, personality and potential. While relevant experience is valued, we believe areas of law can be taught. We're looking for someone who is curious, commercially minded, personable and genuinely keen to learn, contribute and grow with the team.
What You'll Be Doing
Depending on your experience and our clients' needs, you will:
Provide legal advice and support across a variety of client matters
Conduct legal research and prepare clear, practical written advice
Draft and review contracts, correspondence and other legal documentation
Assist with commercial, government and regulatory matters
Support matters involving procurement, probity, privacy, employment and dispute resolution
Work directly with clients and build strong professional relationships
Collaborate closely with senior lawyers and the broader AQMN team
Develop your capability across new areas of law through hands-on experience and mentoring
About You
To be considered, you will need:
Admission as a lawyer in the ACT
Approximately 1–3 years' post-admission experience
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Sound judgement and excellent attention to detail
A practical and solutions-focused approach
Confidence engaging with clients and colleagues
A willingness to learn and work across different areas of law
A positive, collaborative attitude and strong interpersonal skills
Experience in one or more of the following areas would be highly regarded but is not mandatory:
Commercial law
Litigation and dispute resolution
Employment law
Government law
Privacy
Procurement and probity
You don't need to tick every box. If you have the right foundation, attitude and willingness to learn, we'd still love to hear from you.
Security Clearance
An existing Australian Government security clearance is not required.
For the right candidate, AQMN can support and sponsor the security clearance process where required.
Why Join AQMN?
This is an opportunity to:
Work closely with experienced senior leadership
Gain exposure to a broad range of clients and legal matters
Develop experience across multiple areas of law
Build strong client-facing and commercial skills early in your career
Receive hands-on guidance, mentoring and professional development
Join a team that values attitude, personality, potential and cultural fit alongside technical capability
We are keeping an open mind on remuneration and welcome candidates to share their salary expectations as part of the recruitment process.
If you're an early-career lawyer looking for an opportunity to learn, contribute and build a broad legal career in Canberra, we'd love to hear from you.
