About the role
Summary
Secure Bits is looking for a Junior Electrical Engineer to join our Critical Infrastructure team, working on Energy Management Systems (EMS), Electrical Power Monitoring Systems (EPMS) and SCADA solutions across critical infrastructure projects.
This is an excellent opportunity for a graduate or early-career Electrical Engineer who wants practical, hands-on experience and is comfortable working independently as part of a geographically dispersed engineering team.
Before you Apply
We want to be upfront about how this role operates.
Australian Citizenship is required
Due to the nature of our work and the requirement to be eligible for an Australian Government Security Vetting Agency (AGSVA) security clearance, you must be an Australian Citizen to be considered for this position.
Unfortunately, permanent residency or other Australian working rights are not sufficient for this particular role.
Where you’ll work
Secure Bits does not have a permanent office in Sydney.
This is not a traditional office-based engineering role. Your work will predominantly involve:
working on customer sites across Sydney;
working from home when completing design, documentation and other project work;
testing, commissioning and supporting systems at customer facilities; and
occasional travel to our Canberra facilities or other project locations as required.
You will be part of a broader Secure Bits engineering and project team, but you should be comfortable working remotely and independently when you are not on site.
If you are looking for a role where you attend a Sydney office and work alongside a large local engineering team every day, this probably isn't the right role for you.
If, however, you enjoy variety, getting out on site, solving real-world engineering problems and building practical experience quickly, we'd love to hear from you.
About the Role
As a Junior Electrical Engineer, you'll support the design, implementation, testing and commissioning of EMS, EPMS and SCADA systems used in data centres and other critical infrastructure environments.
Working with our engineers, project teams, customers and contractors, you will gain exposure across the full project lifecycle rather than being limited to one small part of the engineering process.
Your work will include:
assisting with the design and implementation of EMS, EPMS and SCADA systems;
creating electrical schematics, layouts and technical documentation;
supporting SCADA/EMS software development;
system testing, validation and commissioning;
attending customer and construction sites for project delivery;
preparing handover documentation, as-builts and commissioning reports;
working with suppliers and contractors; and
contributing to internal engineering, quality and project processes.
About You
We're looking for someone at the beginning of their engineering career who is keen to learn and comfortable getting involved in practical project delivery.
You'll ideally:
hold a relevant Electrical Engineering degree;
have strong foundational electrical engineering knowledge;
communicate clearly and produce good written technical documentation;
be comfortable working on construction sites and within operational facilities;
be able to work independently when working from home or attending site;
show initiative and be willing to solve problems rather than wait for instructions;
be organised, adaptable and safety conscious; and
have some exposure to programming concepts or languages (desirable, but not essential).
Because of the nature of our work, Australian citizenship is required, along with the ability to obtain and maintain an Australian Government security clearance.
About Secure Bits
Secure Bits is an Australian, veteran-owned technology and manufacturing company delivering engineering solutions across critical infrastructure, Defence and other high-dependency environments.
Our Critical Infrastructure team designs and integrates systems supporting power monitoring, energy management, communications and operational resilience.
While our main engineering and manufacturing capability is based in Canberra, our projects and people operate across Australia.
Secure Bits is a Veteran Employment Supporter, and we actively recruit and support individuals with military experience. Within our Critical Infrastructure Division, we value the leadership, discipline, and mission focus that veterans and Defence Reservists bring — and we provide the flexibility to support their continued service.
Why Join Us?
For an early-career engineer, this role offers something a little different from a traditional graduate position. You'll have the opportunity to:
work on real customer projects from the outset;
gain practical site and commissioning experience;
develop skills across electrical engineering, controls, SCADA and critical infrastructure;
work with experienced engineers and multidisciplinary project teams;
take on increasing responsibility as your capability develops; and
work flexibly between customer sites and home.
About the role
As a Junior Engineer at Secure Bits, you will contribute to the development and deployment of cutting-edge energy management systems (EMS) and Electrical Power Monitoring Systems (EPMS) in critical infrastructure environments. This entry-level position offers hands-on exposure to EMS, EPMS and SCADA technologies, with a focus on improving energy efficiency in data centres and high-dependency power systems. Working closely with senior engineers and multidisciplinary project teams, you’ll play a key role in both design and implementation activities.
How to Apply?
If you're ready to take the next step in your career, we’d love to hear from you! Please submit your resume and a cover letter via SEEK.
Pre-screening
Progression to interview requires candidates to complete a short pre-screening questionnaire. A link to the questionnaire will be emailed to you as part of the pre-screening process.
