Project Controls Officer

The Role

As the APS 6 Project Controls Officer, you will be accountable under broad direction to perform and achieve complex project work within an integrated workforce. You will have knowledge of legislative frameworks, government decision-making and Defence’s mission and policy requirements. 

You will work independently with the opportunity for reasonable autonomy and accountability for the achievement of outcomes. You will exercise both initiative and judgement in the interpretation of policy and in the application of practices and procedures, providing detailed project, technical, professional and policy advice in relation to complex work. You will contribute to strategic planning, program and project management and policy development. 

You may lead a team and be accountable to set work priorities and manage workflows, have a considerable level of stakeholder engagement and liaise with stakeholders in relation to complex issues. You are expected to be capable of building team capability through coaching, feedback and developing the quality of work undertaken by others.

Please note, there are two roles potentially available under this recruitment. One of the roles will have a additional finance responsibilities including supporting finance management activities, financial reporting and purchase order creation and processing.

About our Team

The Landing Craft Branch is accountable for acquisitions under the LAND8710 Program, including LAND8710-1 Landing Craft - Medium (LC-M), LAND8710-1B Amphibious Vehicle - Logistics (AV-L) and LAND8710-2 Landing Craft - Heavy (LC-H). The LAND8710 projects are supported by a Program Management Office (PMO) that is responsible for support, governance and assurance functions across the LAND8710 program.

The Program Management Office and Landing Craft Branch consists of professionals from various disciplines and comprises highly skilled and motivated APS, ADF and contracted personnel. The Project Controls Officer sits within the PMO and performs complex project work within an integrated workforce.

Our Ideal Candidate

As the APS 6 Project Controls Officer, your duties will include, but not be limited to:

• Provide operational support to project management and facilitate administrative and coordination requirements.
• Lead the development and maintenance of project planning and processes in accordance with agreed procedures and performance standards.
• Use experience to apply project management methodologies to administrative and technical activities.
• Support project and program governance activities.
• Support procurement and finance activities across the program.
• Research, draft and prepare briefs, complex correspondence and reports including submissions for committee consideration.
• Work collaboratively, operate as an effective team member and provide constructive feedback.
• Engage with relevant stakeholders and understand their expectations and concerns.
• Assess and adjust project management methodologies to comply with legislative, policy and regulatory frameworks.
• Resolve problems using expertise, taking the initiative to identify alternative courses of action.
• Demonstrate commitment to the APS Values and APS Code of Conduct.

Security Clearance

Applicants must be able to obtain and maintain a security clearance at “Negative Vetting Level 1”.
