Non-Executive Director / Deputy Chair Opportunities (Voluntary)

St Mary's House of Welcome (SMHOW) is seeking dedicated Non-Executive Directors to join our Board and help guide a respected Melbourne-based not-for-profit supporting people experiencing homelessness, disadvantage and social isolation. Founded by the Daughters of Charity, SMHOW has been serving vulnerable members of the community for more than 60 years through practical support, advocacy and connection.

We are particularly interested in candidates with expertise in one or more of the following areas:

• Legal and governance
• Community services sector experience in particular across any of homelessness, mental health or alcohol and other drug services

As a Non-Executive Director, you will work collaboratively with fellow Board members and the CEO to provide strategic direction, governance oversight and support for the organisation's mission and values. Board meetings are held approximately 10 times per year, with Directors also serving on at least one Board committee.

With an expected Chair transition in the next 18 months, candidates can also nominate to be considered for the currently vacant Deputy

Chair position with a view to succeeding the current Chair towards the end of 2027.

Successful applicants will bring strong governance capability, financial literacy, strategic thinking and a commitment to the principles of Catholic Social Teaching and the values of respect, welcome, relationships, hopefulness and responsiveness.
