Technical Officer - Logistics

The Role

The position works in a complex operating environment as part of NCB, which operates in Adelaide and Henderson WA. This position supports the implementation and delivery of continuous shipbuilding and is an integral part of Logistic Engineering and Technical Support within NCB. The Logistics directorate goals are to deliver the NCB capability efficiently and effectively, and to continuously improve strategies and processes. 

The key responsibilities of this position are: 

• Assist with Engineering/Technical Quality inspections of engineering items delivered into the warehouse
• Assist with identified Obsolescence, reviewing and conducting Technical Assessments of Replacement Alternate Items of Supply
• Supervise and conduct the on-board assurance audits of ship fitted Certified Tracked Items, Pressure vessels, Flexible Hoses, Engineering Registers data, plant registration and associated Objective Quality Evidence (OQE) 
• Audit pre-acceptance maintenance documentation, and assist with the collection of maintenance trigger data
• Conduct assurance audits of Integrated Logistics Support (ILS) data against the Product (ship)  
• Apply technical knowledge and experience to identify and report risks and uncertainties and consider these in planning, decision-making and priority setting; 
• Provide technical advice and recommendations on the development of advancements to establish technical principles, techniques, methods and regulations
• Build and sustain positive relationships with team members, actively participate in teamwork 
• Identify and report safety risks recognised on technical equipment on board the ship and in the warehouse.

About our Team

Naval Construction Branch (NCB) is accountable for the assurance of ship construction, set-to work and transit of vessels constructed at the Osborne Naval Shipyard and Henderson precinct. We have branches in both Osborne, SA and Henderson WA, with a smaller presence in Port Macquarie, NSW. 

NCB is furthering continuous naval shipbuilding and growing sovereign capability by overseeing the construction to ensure quality and standards are met, storing lessons learnt and developing standard shipbuilding procedures for construction. NCB will oversee the construction of many different Navy vessels including Offshore Patrol Vessels, Hunter Class Frigates, Young Endeavour, Evolved Cape Class and Pacific Patrol Boats. 

Working at NCB will enable you to be at the grassroots of continuous naval shipbuilding, where you are part of a working shipyard, being able to see and contribute to the vessels delivered and used in service by Navy. NCB currently has highly skilled and diverse shipbuilding experience that will be shared to grow your hands-on construction knowledge. You will work alongside Navy personnel, internal project management officers and Prime contractors.

Security Clearance:

Applicants must be able to obtain and maintain a security clearance at “Negative Vetting Level 1”.
