About the role
At Bentrol, we design and manufacture bespoke low voltage switchboards and modular switchrooms for projects across Australia and beyond. With two advanced manufacturing facilities in Bendigo and an office in Bundoora, we combine precision engineering, in-house custom sheet metal fabrication, and leading-edge control system integration to produce high-quality, fully compliant systems. Our focus on efficiency, quality, and tailored solutions has made us a trusted name in the industry.
To support our continued growth, we are seeking an experienced full-time Senior Electrical Estimator to join our Switchboards and Switchrooms division. This role can be based in either Melbourne (Thomastown) or Bendigo.
This is a senior, hands-on estimating position with responsibility across tendering, pricing strategy, technical review, and supporting the development of our estimating capability.
Role Responsibilities
Prepare accurate and detailed estimates for LV switchboards, control systems, and associated electrical scopes.
Review RFQs, specifications, and drawings to determine scope, risks, and pricing strategy.
Manage multiple tenders concurrently and consistently meet submission deadlines.
Conduct pre- and post-tender negotiations with clients and suppliers.
Develop value-engineered solutions that balance performance, cost, and compliance.
Prepare initial designs and Bills of Materials for tender packages.
Identify and support new business opportunities within utilities, mining, energy, and infrastructure markets.
Build and maintain strong relationships with key clients and stakeholders.
Liaise with suppliers and subcontractors to obtain competitive pricing.
Work collaboratively with engineering, project management, and senior leadership through tender and project handover stages.
Maintain internal cost libraries, pricing databases, and estimating tools.
Assist the Sales Engineering Manager in a 2IC capacity.
Mentor and support junior estimators to improve consistency and capability.
Requirements
Proven experience in electrical estimating, ideally in a senior capacity.
Strong technical knowledge of LV switchboards, control systems, BMS, PLCs, and industrial automation.
Ability to interpret engineering drawings and specifications for electrical and mechanical services.
Familiarity with Australian Standards including AS 3000, AS 61439, and AS 5368.
Tertiary qualifications in Electrical Engineering, Quantity Surveying, Construction Management, Project Management, Leadership, or similar.
Excellent commercial acumen and analytical skills.
High-level negotiation and communication skills.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office and general computer systems.
Strong attention to detail, accuracy, and organisation.
Ability to manage multiple priorities effectively.
A growth mindset with a willingness to learn and support continuous improvement.
