About the role
Since 1888, Bowra & O'Dea has been Western Australia’s premier family-owned funeral service provider, dedicated to offering compassionate and professional care to families in their time of need.
We are seeking a compassionate, reliable, and well‑presented individual to join our team as a Funeral Director’s Assistant. This position suits someone who is calm under pressure, comfortable working in a hands‑on environment, and able to support families during difficult moments.
You will work across the metropolitan area, with a strong focus on south‑of‑the‑river and central locations.
Key Responsibilities:
Assisting with funerals in a respectful & professional manner
Driving funeral vehicles, including hearses & limousines
Supporting grieving families with sensitivity & care
Handling deceased persons with dignity & respect
Helping with additional tasks as required
This is a full‑time 38‑hour role worked between 7:00am and 6:00pm Monday to Friday, with overtime available & additional weekend or evening work as needed to support funeral services.
Requirements:
Genuine commitment to exceptional service delivered with compassion & professionalism
Ability to remain calm in emotionally challenging situations
Strong organisational skills and attention to detail
Reliable, flexible, & cooperative team player
Discreet, with the ability to maintain confidentiality
Physically fit - manual lifting is a daily requirement
Clean and valid WA Drivers Licence (non - provisional)
Full Australian Residency
National Police Clearance (issued within the past 12 months)
Ability to pass a pre-employment medical
