With decades of experience, the organization is a trusted partner for IT lifecycle solutions and global IT service delivery across the APAC region.Role Description As a Level 3 Systems Engineer you are the highest point of technical escalation within our managed services team. This role takes responsibility and you are accountable for the health, resilience and recoverability of client infrastructure across a diverse portfolio of State Government and HealthCare departmentsThe role is deliberately hands-on and generalist in nature. You will spend your time with Veeam backup and replication jobs, Microsoft Hyper-V clusters, HPE server and storage hardware, and PRTG monitoring — diagnosing root cause, engineering permanent fixes, and lifting the standard of the platforms we manage and reporting against client.
Key ResponsibilitiesEscalation & Incident ManagementDiagnose and resolve complex infrastructure faults spanning virtualisation, storage, backup, networking and operating systems.Report on a daily cadence against infrastructure (physical and virtual)Lead major incident response, including client and stakeholder communication, and drive incidents through to root cause analysis and permanent remediation.Meet and monitor contractual SLA targets for escalated tickets; ensure accurate, timely updates in the ticketing system (ServiceNow)Identify recurring issues and convert them into problem records, automation, monitoring improvements or documented fixes rather than repeat callouts.Backup, Replication & Disaster Recovery — VeeamDesign, deploy, configure and maintain Veeam Backup & Replication infrastructure, including backup proxies, repositories, scale-out repositories, WAN accelerators and Veeam Cloud Connect.Own backup job health across the client base: investigate and resolve failed and warning jobs, tune scheduling and retention, and remediate chronically underperforming jobs.Implement and validate immutable and air-gapped backup targets (hardened Linux repositories, object storage / S3 immutability) in line with 3-2-1-1-0 principles.Plan and execute scheduled DR tests, verification jobs and restore testing; document results and remediate any gaps identified.Perform file-level, application-item and full VM restores, including Instant Recovery, under pressure during live outage situations.Manage Veeam licensing, version currency and patching across the fleet, and contribute to backup capacity and growth planning.Virtualisation — Microsoft Hyper-VBuild, patch and maintain Hyper-V hosts, failover clusters, Cluster Shared Volumes and virtual switching.Troubleshoot cluster, live migration, quorum, CSV, storage path and virtual networking issues to root cause.Manage VM lifecycle: provisioning, sizing, checkpoints, resource optimisation, integration services and guest OS standards.Administer Windows Server (2016 through to current), Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, Group Policy, certificate services and Windows patching via RMM.Use PowerShell to automate host configuration, reporting and repetitive administrative tasks.Support migrations to and between Hyper-V platforms, and hybrid integration with Microsoft 365 and Azure (Azure Arc, Azure Site Recovery, Entra Connect) where in scope.Server & Storage Hardware — HPESpecify, rack, build, firmware-update and maintain HPE ProLiant servers (DL/ML, Gen10 and Gen11) and associated storage.Administer HPE iLO, Intelligent Provisioning, Smart Storage Administrator, Service Pack for ProLiant (SPP) and HPE OneView.Configure and support HPE storage platforms —Nimble — including volume provisioning, snapshots, replication and multipathing.Manage RAID configuration, disk and controller replacements, and predictive failure remediation.Raise, manage and escalate HPE warranty and support cases; track hardware lifecycle, warranty expiry and end-of-support risk across the client base.Contribute to hardware refresh scoping, sizing and quoting in conjunction with the sales and procurement team.Monitoring & Proactive Management — PRTGOwn the PRTG Network Monitor environment: core server and remote probe deployment, upgrades, clustering and health.Build, tune and standardise sensors, device templates, thresholds, dependencies and notification triggers to reduce alert noise and eliminate false positives.Ensure new client onboarding includes complete, consistent monitoring coverage of servers, hypervisors, backups, storage, network devices and critical services.Develop custom sensors (PowerShell, SNMP, WMI, REST) to monitor systems not covered out of the box.Produce capacity, availability and trending reports for client reviews, and use monitoring data to recommend proactive remediation before failures occur.Projects, Documentation & Continuous ImprovementAct as technical lead on infrastructure projects: server and storage refreshes, virtualisation migrations, backup and DR uplifts, and monitoring rollouts.Provide pre-sales technical input — scoping, solution design, effort estimation and bill of materials review.Create and maintain accurate client documentation, network diagrams, runbooks and knowledge base articlesClient EngagementCommunicate clearly and confidently with non-technical stakeholders, translating technical risk into business language.Contribute technical content to client technology roadmaps, risk registers and quarterly business reviews.Represent the business professionally on client sites and maintain strong working relationships with key technical contacts.Skills & ExperienceEssentialMinimum 5 years’ experience in an IT infrastructure or systems engineering role, including at least 2 years at Level 3 or senior escalation level, ideally within an MSP or managed services environment.Demonstrable expertise administering Veeam Backup & Replication in production, including restores, DR testing and troubleshooting failed jobs at scale.Strong hands-on Microsoft Hyper-V skills, including failover clustering, live migration and cluster troubleshooting.Practical experience with HPE ProLiant server hardware, iLO, firmware/SPP management and HPE storage.Working knowledge of PRTG Network Monitor — sensor configuration, thresholds, notifications and probe management.Advanced Windows Server administration, including Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, Group Policy and patching.Solid networking fundamentals: TCP/IP, VLANs, routing, DNS, VPN and firewall concepts, sufficient to troubleshoot across the stack.PowerShell scripting for automation, reporting and bulk administration.Excellent written and verbal communication, with a genuine commitment to documentation.Current driver’s licence and willingness to attend client sites.Eligibility to work in Australia and ability to satisfy a National Police Check (Fit2Work)DesirableExposure to Microsoft 365, Entra ID and Azure (IaaS, Azure Backup, Azure Site Recovery).Experience with VMware vSphere in mixed-hypervisor environments.Firewall and switching experience (Fortinet, Cisco).Understanding of the Essential Eight, ISO 27001 or similar security frameworks.Veeam Cloud Connect, Microsoft 365 backup or object storage / immutability experience.CertificationsVeeam Certified Engineer (VMCE) — strongly preferred.Microsoft certifications in Windows Server, Azure Administrator (AZ-104) or Hybrid Administrator.HPE ATP / ASE (Server Solutions or Storage Solutions).Paessler PRTG certification (PRTG Certified Monitoring Expert or equivalent).Relevant networking or security certifications (CCNA, Fortinet NSE, CompTIA Security+) viewed favourably.On-Call & After-Hours RequirementsThis role may carry after-hours responsibility. Candidates should be comfortable with the following before applying:An on-call allowance is paid for each rostered period, with additional overtime or time-in-lieu for callouts and planned after-hours work in accordance with company policy. Remote access, a laptop and a mobile phone are provided.
