Embedded Systems & Full-Stack Developer

CF Systems – Sphere Systems is developing an Australian building management and industrial automation platform that combines embedded controllers, custom I/O hardware and a web-based software environment.

We are looking for an experienced Embedded Systems & Full-Stack Developer to join our development team in Bundoora and help take the platform through its next stage of development, testing and commercial release.

The role will work across the full technology stack, including React and TypeScript frontend development, Go backend services, SQLite databases, embedded C, custom Buildroot Linux and Raspberry Pi-based controller hardware.

Key responsibilities will include:

• Developing and extending Go backend services, REST APIs and WebSocket functionality

• Building React and TypeScript user interfaces, configuration tools and real-time dashboards

• Working with SQLite, Redis and shared-memory data structures

• Developing and maintaining embedded C drivers

• Integrating new controller and I/O hardware

• Supporting RS-485 and serial communication protocols

• Working with BACnet and other building automation communication requirements

• Supporting Buildroot, Linux configuration, cross-compilation and deployment

• Debugging software, firmware and hardware integration issues

• Supporting hardware bring-up, testing and field diagnostics

• Developing reliability and automated testing tools

• Assisting with power-failure, storage durability and system recovery testing

• Working with the existing development and electronics team to improve product architecture, quality and release readiness

The ideal candidate will have strong experience in React, TypeScript, Go and SQLite, together with the ability to work comfortably at system and hardware level.

Experience with embedded C, Buildroot, Linux, Raspberry Pi, RS-485, BACnet, BMS, HVAC controls or industrial automation would be highly regarded.

This role would suit someone who enjoys solving practical engineering problems and working across multiple layers of a product rather than being restricted to a narrow software-development role.
