About the role
About Youth Off The Streets
Youth Off The Streets is a not‑for‑profit organisation supporting young people to build safer, healthier futures. For 30 years, our special assistance schools have provided flexible education for students who don’t thrive in mainstream settings.
Our school programs aim to empower young people with learning strategies to make informed decisions towards creating a positive future.
About the Role
We are seeking a passionate and dedicated teacher to join our team on a full-time basis at our special assistance school located in Macquarie Fields, NSW.
The position is in our SOLAR (Schooling via Online Learning for At-Risk Young People) program which provides a flexible learning environment for students whose educational needs are not met through traditional schooling models. The program combines hybrid learning, cross-curricular project-based learning and trauma-informed practice to support highly vulnerable, disengaged young people to reconnect with education and achieve meaningful pathways beyond school.
We are open to applicants who are willing to teach outside their trained subject areas. If you're adaptable, enthusiastic, want to teach in an alternative environment and you’re committed to making a difference, we’d love to hear from you.
Experience, Skills and Abilities
Deliver high-quality teaching across hybrid learning environments, including both face-to-face and online settings.
Apply cross-curricular and project-based learning approaches aligned with the SOLAR educational model.
Develop and monitor student progress, adapting teaching strategies and programs to maximise engagement, attendance and achievement.
Create safe, inclusive and supportive learning environments that promote positive educational outcomes for highly vulnerable, disengaged and twice-exceptional young people.
Experience and proficiency in G-Suite and Google Classroom is desired but not essential.
Ability to work effectively with young people who have been marginalised in previous educational settings.
Demonstrated experience planning, delivering and evaluating educational programs for secondary students.
Knowledge of contemporary teaching practices, including differentiated instruction, personalised learning and project-based learning approaches.
Understanding of trauma-informed practice, neurodiversity, school disengagement and barriers to learning.
Demonstrated ability to build positive and productive relationships with students, families and colleagues.
Experience working collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams.
An understanding of the principles that underpin a child safe organisation, including mandatory child protection procedures.
Knowledge of NESA requirements and curriculum implementation in secondary education settings.
Demonstrated capacity to respect and work effectively with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and people of diverse cultural backgrounds.
Experience and proficiency in digital learning technologies and online learning platforms.
Knowledge of current trends and best practice in alternative education, flexible learning environments and student wellbeing.
Current registration with NSW Education Standards Authority (NESA).
What we can offer you:
Work with deep purpose—making a real difference for vulnerable young people
A supportive, inclusive culture guided by The Sanctuary Model
Ongoing training and development
EAP access for you and your family
Additional leave (purchased leave, gifted leave, self‑care leave)
Regular supervision and support from experienced leaders
Salary packaging to increase your take‑home pay
A team that continually innovates to improve outcomes for young people
Fitness Passport
To Apply
Please ensure you enclose a copy of your resume with your contact details and cover letter addressing the essential criteria (2 pages maximum).
