Youth Development Officer

The part you will play 
As part of the Youth Development Unit, you will work closely with the internal stakeholders/Community.  Working on:     

• Deliver strategic, evidence-informed initiatives that improve outcomes for children (7–11 years) and young people (12–25 years).  

• Lead innovative projects, partnerships and community engagement initiatives that respond to the needs of the community.  

• Collaborate with young people, community organisations and Council teams to strengthen participation, wellbeing, inclusion and connection.  

• Amplify the voices of children and young people through meaningful engagement, co-design and participation opportunities.  

• Develop responsive solutions to emerging issues and strengthen pathways that support positive outcomes for young people.  

• Contribute to the delivery of Council's Youth Plan and Community Plan, helping create a municipality where every child and young person can thrive. 

Let’s talk about you  

You will thrive in this role if you:   

• Tertiary qualification in Youth Work (or a related discipline) and substantial experience (minimum five years) working with children (7–11 years) and young people (12–25 years), preferably within Local Government, together with a current Victorian Driver Licence. 

• Demonstrated ability to design, deliver and evaluate evidence-informed programs, projects, training and community engagement initiatives for diverse audiences, including CALD communities and young people experiencing vulnerability.  

• Strong understanding of child and youth development, community development and strengths-based practice, together with a demonstrated commitment to ethical practice, Child Safe Standards and safeguarding responsibilities.  

• Sound knowledge of the contemporary issues, opportunities and transitions experienced by children and young people, with the ability to apply this understanding to improve outcomes within the City of Whittlesea.  

• Demonstrated understanding of the experiences and needs of LGBTIQA+ communities, with the ability to foster inclusive, safe and welcoming environments for all young people. 

• Highly developed interpersonal, communication, collaboration and computer skills, with the ability to build effective partnerships, work as part of a team, and communicate confidently with a broad range of stakeholders.
