Intermediate / Senior Accountant — Business Services & Tax

12-month fixed-term contract, with a genuine pathway to a permanent full-time role

VJ Accounting & Taxation Services is a well-established Hills District practice providing tax compliance, business advisory, bookkeeping and payroll to a diverse client base — from small businesses to companies turning over $15 million and more. We have grown every year for the past several years, and our reputation is built on providing an excellent service and strategic advice to our clients.

One of our senior accountants is heading off on parental leave later this year, and we’re hiring to cover that portfolio and support the wider team through a busy period of growth. This is a 12-month fixed-term contract in the first instance, however there is a real possibility that the role extends to full-time employment as our workload continues to grow.

You’ll work closely with our Manager and senior team, carrying your own portfolio of business clients — including some of our largest — with real ownership over their financials, lodgements and ongoing advice. Client communication matters as much as technical accuracy here: our clients call us because they trust us to explain things clearly, not just lodge on time.

·        Preparing financial statements and income tax returns for companies, trusts, partnerships and individuals

·        Preparing and reviewing business activity statements and other compliance lodgements

·        Managing your own portfolio of clients end-to-end, including direct client communication

·        Providing practical advice to clients on their financials and general business queries

·        Working closely with our offshore support team and senior accountants to keep jobs moving efficiently

·        Using LodgeIT, Xero, Karbon (our workflow platform, currently being rolled out) and other practice software day to day

·        CA or CPA qualified, or well progressed through your qualification, with around 3–6+ years in Australian public practice

·        Strong technical grounding in business services and tax compliance

·        Confident and clear communicating with clients directly — this is genuinely one of the things we look for most

·        Comfortable managing your own workload and deadlines with a level of autonomy

·        Experience with LodgeIT, Xero and/or similar practice software is a strong advantage

·        You want to build something with a firm that’s growing, not just process another season of returns

We offer genuine hybrid flexibility — the office/home split is negotiable and flexes with workload and season rather than being fixed to a rigid roster. We’re a close, low-stress team who like to celebrate the wins together — regular team lunches, an end-of-financial-year get-together and a Christmas function are all part of how we do things. We back each other up during busy periods and don’t take ourselves too seriously along the way.

$85,000 and above + superannuation, depending on experience.
