About the role
Sequana Group is one of the fastest-growing & independent water, energy, and environment-focused infrastructure advisory firms in Australia with a growing International presence. Home to 250+ experts and an extensive network of contractors, we work with both the private sector and government organisations to break the mould and redefine the future of Australia’s major water, environment, and energy projects. We are committed to delivering exceptional results for our clients throughout all stages of a project and beyond.
This particular role sits with WolfPeak, a Sequana Group Company.
WolfPeak is not your average consultancy. We are a passionate, cross-disciplinary team of specialists solving complex strategic and systematic issues from every angle. With capabilities spanning biodiversity, planning, sustainability, and compliance, we support clients across the full project lifecycle - on site, in boardrooms and everywhere in between.
Currently, WolfPeak are seeking a Senior Ecologist to join their team. The Senior Ecologist will deliver positive biodiversity outcomes across complex projects for a diverse range of clients by undertaking biodiversity assessments and applying best practice ecology principles to avoid and minimise impacts on natural resources.
Acting as a key technical resource, the Senior Ecologist will contribute to project delivery, technical excellence, stakeholder engagement, and problem-solving, while applying strong knowledge of NSW and Commonwealth environmental legislation.
WHAT YOU DO
Project Leadership and Delivery
Lead the delivery of medium to large ecology and biodiversity projects, assessments and statutory ecological reporting.
Prepare and review ecological assessments, biodiversity development assessment reports (BDAR), plans of management and related technical documentation under Parts 4 and 5 of the Environmental Planning and Assessment Act and other relevant frameworks.
Undertake and oversee fieldwork including ecological surveys, habitat assessments, vegetation community surveys, vegetation mapping and Biodiversity Stewardship Site assessments.
Provide high-quality technical advice to clients, colleagues and government agencies.
Manage scope, timelines, budgets and quality across multiple assignments.
Client Engagement and Business Development
Communicate clearly and professionally with clients across the project lifecycle.
Develop project proposals, fee estimates and tenders, and contribute to opportunity scoping.
Identify market opportunities and support the development of innovative environmental services.
Team Development & Collaboration
Mentor and guide junior staff through on-the-job coaching, review and support.
Share technical knowledge across teams and support cross-regional resourcing and delivery.
Operational and Strategic Contribution
Support workload management and collaboration between offices.
Contribute to business planning, continuous improvement and team-wide delivery priorities.
WHO YOU ARE
Candidates should possess:
Relevant degree in Ecology, Zoology, Botany, or equivalent.
Minimum 6 years' of experience in consulting or project-based ecology roles.
Strong technical expertise in ecology, biodiversity assessment and NSW planning and environmental legislation.
Proven ability to lead multiple projects concurrently.
Demonstrated mentoring experience and peer support.
Strong client communication, proposal development and project management skills.
Experience in vegetation typing and mapping under the NSW standard would be highly regarded.
High-level computing skills, particularly in Microsoft Office and GIS.
