Trades Assistant

About the role

The Trades Assistant role involves interpretation and enaction of all job cards as allocated by the Foreman, with consideration of raw material requirements, maximisation of safe working procedures, prioritisation of job cards to ensure customer satisfaction via efficient outputs, supervision of Works in Progress (WIPs), and inspection and maintenance of all commonly used testing and measuring equipment.

Key responsibilities

• Interpret and enact all job cards as allocated by the Foreman

• Manage raw material requirements and identify potential shortages

• Maximise safe working procedures and ensure the Foreman remains involved in prioritisation decisions

• Supervise Works in Progress (WIPs)

• Inspect and maintain all commonly used testing and measuring equipment

• Assist the Foreman to ensure all QAS registers are kept updated

• Perform trades assistant tasks including steel storage, steel cutting, workshop stores work, forklift work, and overhead crane work

• Move completed work to the main Stores area or Dispatch and hand over associated job cards

• Unload delivery vehicles

• Ensure all workshop staff are observing and embracing WHS requirements

• Report errors with honesty and integrity, including appropriate QAM documentation

About you

• Valid Forklift license (required)

• Valid Driver's license (required)

• Valid Crane operation (Rigging) ticket (desirable)

• Operational knowledge of commonly used tools and machinery in the workshop workspace

• Time-management, organisational and traceability skills

• Semi-literate computer skills

• Good attention to detail skills

• Ability to understand continuous improvement

• Ability to self-regulate task prioritisation and keep the Foreman, Tradespersons, and Machine Operators informed

• Strong all-round work ethic and unwillingness to accept the "It's not my job" mindset
