About the role

The position works with individuals and communities to eliminate, prevent and respond to domestic and family and sexual violence by: 

• Working with the Gunbalanya Safe House team to provide support to clients at critical times, including intake and exiting the service
• Working closely with local agencies, including government and non-government service providers
• Working closely with community members and local and trusted elders to seek local solutions and support initiatives aimed at reducing domestic, family and sexual violence in the community

Selection criteria

• Previous experience in a similar role
• Relevant qualification in community services, community development, and/or social work
• Previous experience (minimum 2 years) working in remote Aboriginal communities
• Knowledge and understanding of Aboriginal culture and values and an awareness of the current issues faced by victims of domestic, family and sexual violence
• Demonstrated crisis management experience
• Proven written, oral and interpersonal communication skills
• Ability to work as part of a team
• Proven history of developing and maintaining productive working relationships with key external stake holders and referrers
• Effective organisational and time management skills
• Sound IT skills including use of database and data reporting programs
• Experience with SHIP online case management system

Requirements/Qualifications

• Eligible to work in Australia and willing to relocate to Gunbalanya
• Valid Police clearance (not older than 6 months from date of issue)
• Valid NT working with children check (Ochre card)
• Current ‘C’ class Driver’s Licence
• Relevant qualification in community services, community development, and/or social work
