Technical Manager / Senior Frame & Truss Detailer

Sydney Frames & Trusses is seeking an accomplished Technical Manager - Senior Frame & Truss Detailer to strengthen and lead our technical detailing function.

This is a senior appointment for someone with extensive timber frame and truss experience who can combine high-level technical capability with practical manufacturing knowledge, quality control and leadership.

You may already be managing a technical or detailing department, or you may be an exceptional Senior Detailer ready to step into a position with greater responsibility, authority and long-term career potential.

You will play a central role in improving technical accuracy, supporting production, resolving complex design issues and developing a high-performing detailing team.

The opportunity

This is more than a production-detailing position. You will take genuine ownership of the technical department and directly influence how projects are designed, checked and released for manufacturing.

Working closely with management, builders, engineers, estimators, production staff and site personnel, you will ensure projects are accurate, compliant, practical to manufacture and delivered within the required timeframes.

This is a hands-on leadership role. You will oversee the technical and detailing function while continuing to personally detail timber wall frames & roof trusses 

The position would suit an experienced Technical Manager who enjoys remaining technically involved, or an accomplished Senior Detailer ready to progress into departmental leadership.

Key responsibilities

• Lead, coordinate and support the frame and truss detailing department.

• Detail timber wall frames & roof trusses

• Review architectural, structural and engineering documentation.

• Complete technical checking and quality assurance before projects are released to production.

• Liaise professionally with builders, engineers, architects, certifiers and internal stakeholders.

• Provide clear technical guidance to estimators, detailers, production teams and management.

• Improve detailing procedures, checking systems, templates and departmental workflows.

• Monitor detailing priorities, project deadlines and department capacity.

• Reduce design errors, production interruptions, remakes and avoidable site issues.

• Assist with recruitment, onboarding, training and performance development within the technical team.

• Support continuous improvement across estimating, detailing, production and installation.

About you

To succeed in this position, you will have:

• Extensive experience detailing timber wall frames, roof trusses and floor systems.

• Strong knowledge of timber frame and truss design, manufacturing and construction.

• Advanced experience with Pryda Build or comparable MiTek or Multinail software.

• The ability to independently complete and check complex residential projects.

• A thorough understanding of architectural and structural drawings.

• Strong working knowledge of relevant Australian Standards and building requirements.

• Experience identifying design risks and resolving technical problems before production.

• A practical understanding of how detailing decisions affect manufacturing, transport and installation.

• High attention to detail and a strong commitment to technical accuracy.

• The confidence to communicate with builders, engineers, customers and production personnel.

• Strong organisation, prioritisation and workload-management skills.

• A calm, accountable and solutions-focused approach.

Highly regarded

The following will be viewed favourably:

• Previous experience as a Technical Manager, Design Manager, Detailing Manager, Team Leader or Senior Checker.

• Advanced proficiency with Pryda Build.

• Experience leading, mentoring or checking the work of other detailers.

• Exposure to medium-density residential developments, townhouses, duplexes & custom homes 

• Experience improving technical workflows and quality-control systems.

• Knowledge of estimating, scheduling, manufacturing machinery or frame and truss production.

Location and flexibility

The position is based in South-West Sydney. Because the role works closely with production and management, regular factory and office attendance is preferred.
