HSE Manager / HSE Advisor - Construction
Canberra | Competitive salary + super | Full-time onsiteWe are seeking an experienced HSE professional with a strong construction background to join an established organisation delivering major construction and infrastructure projects in Canberra.This is an excellent opportunity for a Health, Safety & Environment professional who is passionate about maintaining high standards of safety, compliance and risk management across complex construction projects.Please note: Australian Citizenship is mandatory. The successful candidate will be required to obtain and maintain an NV2 security clearance and must be available to work onsite 5 days per week.
About the Role
Working closely with project management and construction teams, you will be responsible for supporting and driving HSE outcomes across the project lifecycle.Key responsibilities will include:Lead and promote a strong health, safety and environmental culture across construction activitiesProvide HSE advice and guidance to project managers, supervisors, contractors and workersDevelop, implement and maintain HSE plans, procedures and systemsConduct regular site inspections, audits and risk assessmentsIdentify hazards and implement appropriate control measuresMonitor compliance with WHS legislation, regulations, standards and project requirementsInvestigate incidents, near misses and non-conformances and implement corrective actionsSupport the development and review of SWMS, JHAs and risk assessmentsMonitor subcontractor and contractor HSE complianceProvide HSE reporting, analysis and recommendations to project leadershipDeliver toolbox talks, inductions and safety training as requiredPromote continuous improvement across HSE practices and processesMaintain accurate HSE records, registers and documentation
About You
To be successful in this role, you will have:Proven experience in an HSE/WHS role within the construction industryStrong knowledge of Australian WHS legislation and construction safety requirementsExperience working across active construction sitesDemonstrated experience conducting audits, inspections, risk assessments and incident investigationsStrong understanding of SWMS, JHAs and construction risk managementExcellent communication and stakeholder management skillsAbility to influence and engage with project teams at all levelsStrong attention to detail and a proactive approach to safetyRelevant HSE, WHS, Occupational Health & Safety or construction qualificationsConstruction White CardExperience working on large-scale or complex construction projects will be highly regarded
