Help shape the financial future of a national LGBTQ+ charity

The LGBTQ Domestic Violence Awareness Foundation (DVAF) is seeking an experienced and values-driven Treasurer & Board Director to join our volunteer Board and Executive. This is an opportunity to use your financial expertise to support a growing national charity working to end domestic, family and intimate partner violence within LGBTQ+ communities. The Foundation works to improve outcomes for LGBTQ+ victims and survivors through awareness campaigns, education, advocacy, collaboration and reducing barriers to reporting violence and accessing safe, inclusive support services. The role can be based anywhere in Australia and is fully remote. 

Our work includes the internationally recognised LGBTQ Domestic Violence Awareness Day on 28 May, education and training initiatives, resources for frontline workers and the community, and partnerships across government, community and corporate sectors.

We are looking for someone who can bring strong financial stewardship while also contributing strategically as a member of the Board and Executive.

About the role

As Treasurer & Board Director, you will provide financial leadership, oversight and advice to the Board while also undertaking hands-on financial management activities appropriate to a growing, volunteer-led national charity. You will work collaboratively with the Chair, Company Secretary, Board Directors and other members of the Foundation to ensure the organisation's finances are well managed, sustainable and aligned with its charitable purpose and strategic objectives.

Key Responsibilities

Financial management & oversight:

• Oversee the Foundation's day-to-day financial management and financial position.
• Manage and oversee the Foundation's bank accounts, including appropriate access, authorities, payments and banking processes.
• Undertake account reconciliation and operational financial management, including bank reconciliations, financial transactions, income and expenditure.
• Monitor cash flow, financial sustainability and available reserves.
• Prepare regular financial reports for the Board, including income and expenditure, balance sheet, cash position and relevant financial commentary.
• Assist the Board to maintain appropriate financial controls, delegations, approval processes and safeguards against financial mismanagement or fraud.
• Ensure financial systems and processes are proportionate to the Foundation's size, activities and risk profile.

Taxation compliance:

• Prepare, review and lodge Business Activity Statements (BAS) and manage associated GST reporting requirements.
• Monitor relevant taxation and financial compliance obligations and ensure lodgements are completed accurately and on time.
• Support the Foundation in meeting its financial record-keeping and reporting obligations as an ACNC-registered charity.

Strategic financial growth:

• Support the Board in identifying and assessing opportunities for the Foundation's financial growth and sustainability.
• Provide financial input into business cases, major initiatives and strategic decisions.
• Contribute to developing sustainable financial strategies that enable the Foundation to expand its impact nationally and internationally.
• Review grant applications and submissions from a financial perspective.

Board & Executive responsibilities:

As a Board Director and member of the Executive, you will also:

• Attend and actively participate in Board meetings.
• Contribute to the Foundation's strategic direction, governance and organisational development.
• Exercise appropriate care, diligence and independent judgement as a Board Director.
• Ensure the Foundation's financial decisions support and further its charitable purpose.
• Contribute to risk management, organisational sustainability and good governance.
