Accountant (General)

About the role

Top Group is seeking an experienced Accountant (General) to join the team in South Yarra. The successful candidate will be responsible for financial reporting, taxation and regulatory compliance, budgeting, financial analysis and maintaining effective accounting systems and internal controls.

Key responsibilities

• Assist in developing and implementing accounting and budgetary policies and procedures to support effective financial management and compliance with applicable accounting standards.

• Prepare and analyse monthly, quarterly and annual financial statements, management accounts and financial reports for management and other relevant stakeholders.

• Examine operating costs, revenue and expenditure and provide analysis and recommendations to improve financial performance, budgeting and cost control.

• Prepare budgets, forecasts and cash-flow projections and analyse actual financial performance against budgets and forecasts.

• Prepare and review BAS, GST, taxation calculations and supporting documentation, and assist in meeting relevant Australian taxation and statutory obligations.

• Conduct financial investigations and prepare reports on financial performance, business transactions, financial risks and other matters requiring accounting analysis.

• Provide financial and taxation advice regarding business operations, financial structures and commercial decisions.

• Monitor cash flow, working capital and financial risks and recommend appropriate strategies to support the financial stability of the business.

• Liaise with external accountants, auditors, financial institutions and other professional advisers as required.

• Maintain accurate accounting records and ensure financial information complies with relevant statutory and reporting requirements.

About you

• A bachelor's degree or higher qualification in Accounting, Commerce, Finance or a closely related discipline.

• A minimum of 5 years of relevant professional accounting experience, including financial reporting, budgeting, taxation compliance and financial analysis.

• Strong knowledge of Australian accounting and taxation requirements.

• Experience preparing financial statements, management accounts, budgets, forecasts and financial analysis.

• Sound understanding of BAS, GST and other Australian taxation compliance requirements.

• Experience with accounting software and cloud-based financial systems.

• Experience with MYOB, Xero or similar accounting platforms will be highly regarded.

• Strong Microsoft Excel and financial analysis skills.

• Strong analytical, organisational and problem-solving abilities.

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
