The role
This is a broad People and Culture role with responsibility across both HR and payroll. Working directly with the Head of People and Culture, you will manage your own portfolio of work and provide practical support to employees and managers across day-to-day HR matters, reporting, workforce planning, training, compliance and continuous improvement.
You will also take ownership of end-to-end payroll and associated payroll compliance.
The role suits an experienced HR professional who is comfortable working autonomously, managing competing priorities, and enjoys having the opportunity to take ownership of their work and make the role their own.
Key responsibilities
Payroll (approx. 40%)
Manage end-to-end fortnightly and monthly payroll using Employment Hero
Ensure compliance with superannuation, STP, payroll tax and other payroll obligations
Maintain accurate employee setups, pay rules, leave balances and payroll records
Prepare, reconcile and analyse payroll reports for management review
Act as the first point of contact for payroll queries and resolve issues efficiently
Manage the payroll-related administration of WorkCover, including ensuring correct payments are processed through payroll
Complete required wage reporting and provide payroll information to insurers as needed
Maintain accurate WorkCover payroll records and support related compliance and reconciliation requirements
People and Culture support (approx. 60%)
Act as a key point of contact for employees and managers across day-to-day People and Culture queries
Provide practical advice and support to managers on People and Culture processes, policies and compliance requirements
Maintain and deliver internal manager training on recruitment, people processes, compliance requirements and manager responsibilities
Prepare and analyse People and Culture reporting, identifying trends, risks and areas requiring attention
Support workforce planning, forward planning and strategic People and Culture initiatives
Assist with employee relations, performance, attendance and other people matters as required
Support broader People and Culture projects and continuous improvement initiatives
Assist with recruitment, onboarding and offboarding processes where required
Prepare employee correspondence, contracts and documentation where required
Maintain and update policies, procedures and forms as needed
What you’ll bring
Proven end-to-end payroll experience (minimum 2 years) is essential
Knowledge of awards, EBAs, and payroll compliance requirements
Strong systems and spreadsheet capability (Employment Hero experience highly regarded)
High level of organisation, accuracy, and attention to detail
Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with discretion
Strong communication skills and proactive follow-through
HR or Business qualification is helpful but not essential
