DFV Practitioner and Educator

Summary:

Join our team in a dynamic and rewarding role supporting individuals, families and communities affected by domestic, family and sexual violence. The DFV Practitioner and Educator provides trauma-informed, risk-responsive casework, including intake, assessment, safety planning, case coordination and ongoing support to promote safety, stabilisation and recovery. The role also plays an important part in strengthening community understanding and responses to domestic, family and sexual violence through the delivery of education, engagement and awareness initiatives. Working collaboratively with community members, stakeholders and partner organisations, you will contribute to building safer, more informed and connected communities across the region.

Enjoy the variety of working across two locations, with three days based in Mossman and two days in Cairns. A company vehicle is provided for travel, with travel time forming part of your working day.

Responsibilities: (Including but not limited to)

• Deliver comprehensive DFV case management services including intake, risk assessment, safety planning, case planning, and ongoing support in line with organisational frameworks.
• Exercise professional judgement in managing a DFV caseload, ensuring timely, appropriate, and risk-responsive interventions.
• Develop, implement, and review client-centred case plans aligned with identified risks, needs, and goals.
• Coordinate and monitor case plan actions, ensuring continuity of care and effective client engagement.
• Apply trauma-informed, strengths-based, and culturally safe practices in all aspects of service delivery.
• Maintain accurate, timely, and confidential case records, reports, and data in accordance with organisational and funding requirements
• In collaboration with the Manager of Shelter Services and the wider team, develop and deliver the provision of whole of community family and/or sexual violence awareness and education
• In collaboration with the Manager of Shelter Services and the wider team, develop and maintain professional client resources for use within this service
• Participate in an on-call rostered arrangement to support emergency after-hours operational requirements, as required

About You (Selection Criteria)

• Demonstrated experience in case work within the Community Services sector; experience in DFV is highly desirable.
• Demonstrated experience working collaboratively and effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team, building positive working relationships and contributing to coordinated, client-centered outcomes.
• Understanding of family and/or sexual violence, including knowledge of cultural sensitivities and intersectional impacts.
• Knowledge of legislation impacting on situations of family and/or sexual violence including relevant notifications and referral pathways.
• Demonstrated ability to facilitate and deliver community education programs to various target groups
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to work cooperatively within a team environment.
• Experience in working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander and Culturally and Linguistically Diverse people and communities
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office and other relevant computer applications.  

Essential Requirements

• Relevant degree tertiary qualifications in Social Work, Psychology, Behavioral Sciences, or related field OR Diploma of Community Services, Child and Adolescent, or equivalent

AND

• Minimum 3+ years’ demonstrated casework experience within the community services sector  

OR

• Relevant degree tertiary qualifications in Social Work, Psychology, Behavioral Sciences, or related field OR Diploma of Community Services, Child and Adolescent, or equivalent

AND

• Minimum 2 years’ experience in Domestic and Family Violence Sector AND/OR Extensive demonstrated casework experience working within complex / high risk environments.
• Current driver’s license 
• Blue Card – Suitability for Child-Related Employment 
• National Police Check (issued within the previous 3 months of commencement)
