About the role
Take a leading role in creating an outstanding community facility experience at George Town's brand-new Aquatic Health & Wellbeing Centre, due to open in October 2026. As Team Leader – Aquatic Centre Programs, you will lead the delivery of innovative aquatic, fitness and recreation programs that inspire participation and enhance the health and wellbeing of the community.

About the Role and You
As Team Leader – Aquatic Centre Programs, you will provide hands-on leadership across the Centre's Learn to Swim, Health & Fitness and Group Fitness programs, supporting the Centre Manager in the day-to-day operation and activation of the facility. You will coordinate program delivery, staff, timetables and community engagement initiatives while ensuring services are safe, welcoming and delivered to a high standard.
You are an enthusiastic and organised leader with strong communication and people management skills. You enjoy working in a dynamic environment, leading by example, supporting and developing staff, and creating outstanding customer experiences through engaging programs and exceptional service.
You have experience in aquatic, fitness or recreation programming and are committed to fostering a positive team culture, building strong community relationships, and delivering inclusive, high-quality programs that encourage participation and support the health and wellbeing of the George Town community.
Position Responsibilities
Lead and support the Learn to Swim, Health & Fitness and Group Fitness teams.
Coordinate the planning and delivery of aquatic, fitness and recreation programs.
Develop staff through recruitment, rostering, training and performance support.
Build strong relationships with schools, community groups and other stakeholders.
Promote exceptional customer service and increase participation and membership.
Support the day-to-day operation of the Centre, including bookings and facility activation.
Ensure compliance with WHS, risk management and operational procedures.
Maintain accurate program, operational and compliance records.
Selection Criteria
Demonstrated leadership and people management skills, including the ability to lead, motivate and develop a team.
Experience coordinating aquatic, fitness, recreation or community programs in a customer-focused environment.
Knowledge of Work Health and Safety (WHS), risk management and emergency management principles.
Experience coordinating day-to-day operations, including staff rostering, scheduling and program delivery.
Well-developed communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with staff, customers and community stakeholders.
Strong organisational and administrative skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities and maintain accurate records.
Demonstrated ability to develop programs and initiatives that increase participation and community engagement.
Relevant qualifications and certifications, or the ability to obtain them, as required for the role.
To be successful in this role, you will have:
Demonstrated leadership experience in the aquatic, fitness, recreation or leisure industry.
Strong communication, organisational and people leadership skills, with the ability to develop and support a high-performing team.
Experience coordinating programs, timetables, staff rosters and customer-focused services.
Sound knowledge of Work Health and Safety (WHS), risk management and customer service principles.
Well-developed computer skills and experience maintaining operational records and program information.
Current First Aid and CPR certification, Working with Vulnerable People Registration and National Police Check (or the ability to obtain where applicable).
A Certificate III in Fitness (or equivalent experience managing fitness operations). An AUSTWIM Teacher of Swimming and Water Safety qualification (or equivalent) is desirable.
