Starick is a not-for-profit organisation operating primarily in the Perth Metropolitan South-East Corridor. Starick supports women, children and young people experiencing and escaping family and domestic violence across the continuum of prevention, early intervention, crisis and healing.

We are seeking a compassionate and reliable Refuge Support Worker to join our team in a full-time, permanent capacity.

This is a hands-on, practical role supporting the day-to-day operations of our refuge service. You will play a key part in ensuring the environment is safe, clean and welcoming, while providing practical assistance to women and children accessing the service.

About the Role

As a Refuge Support Worker, you will support the efficient operation of the refuge through a combination of administrative, operational and client support tasks.

Working alongside Coordinators and Advocates, you will assist with maintaining the refuge environment, transporting clients, and providing practical day-to-day support to residents.

This role is ideal for someone who enjoys a varied, hands-on position and is comfortable working across cleaning, administration and client support.

This is a Monday to Friday role, 8:00am – 4:00pm.

Key responsibilities include:

• Provide practical, day-to-day support to the refuge team, including Coordinators and Advocates
• Assist with administrative duties such as filing, answering phones, data entry and maintaining records
• Complete routine operational tasks, including vehicle log sheets and basic site checks
• Maintain the cleanliness and presentation of the refuge, including preparing units for new residents, cleaning rooms after residents vacate and maintaining shared areas and outdoor spaces
• Assist with sorting and transporting donations as required
• Transport clients to appointments, services and essential errands
• Provide general practical support to residents, including orientation to the refuge and assistance with daily needs
• Communicate respectfully with clients and provide basic emotional support when required
• Monitor the environment and report any safety or wellbeing concerns to the appropriate staff member
• Contribute to a safe, respectful and welcoming environment for all residents and staff
• Participate in team meetings, handovers and supervision
• Undertake other duties as directed by the Refuge Coordinators

About you

You are a practical, approachable and team-oriented individual who is comfortable working in a hands-on support role.

You will demonstrate:

• A genuine interest in supporting women and children in a refuge setting
• The ability to work across a variety of tasks including cleaning, administration and client support
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills
• A reliable and proactive approach to work
• The ability to maintain confidentiality and professional boundaries
• An understanding of trauma-informed practice and respectful engagement

Requirements

• National Police Clearance
• Working with Children Check
• Current WA Driver’s Licence
• Basic computor skills (email, data entry, record keeping)

Desirable

• Experience working in a refuge, crisis accommodation or community services setting
• Knowledge of the family and domestic violence sector
• Relevant qualification in Community Services or similar
