Salam Supermarket Payneham Pty Ltd is a vibrant, community-focused supermarket and halal meat specialist located in Payneham. We are currently seeking an experienced, proactive Retail Store Manager to oversee our complete retail and butcher operations.

Role Overview

As our Retail Store Manager (ANZSCO 142111), you will hold total operational, commercial, and supervisory accountability for the business. You will manage both general supermarket operations and our full-service halal meat section—driving store profitability, managing supplier relationships, ensuring strict halal/food safety compliance, and leading a customer-focused team.

Key Responsibilities

• Halal Meat & Stock Management: Coordinate procurement with certified halal livestock/meat suppliers, oversee butchery inventory turnover, manage carcass/meat yield, and monitor product fresh dates to minimize waste.

• Supermarket Operations & Merchandising: Oversee general grocery lines, establish product pricing, plan promotional activities, and ensure appealing shelf display and stock presentation.

• Food Safety & Compliance: Enforce strict adherence to Australian Food Safety Standards, Halal compliance standards, cold-chain refrigeration protocols, and Work Health & Safety (WHS) regulations.

• Financial Oversight: Manage daily cash flow, POS operations, store operating budgets, labor costs, and overall store profitability.

• Staff Management & Rostering: Lead recruitment, onboarding, performance evaluation, and weekly rosters for retail assistants and butchery counter staff.

• Customer Service: Deliver high-quality customer service, handle client inquiries regarding meat sourcing and product specifications, and maintain strong community ties.

Key Requirements

• Education: Diploma or higher degree in Retail Management, or a related discipline (or equivalent relevant leadership experience).

• Experience: Minimum 1–2 years of proven retail management experience in a supermarket, butcher shop, or fresh food retail setting.

• Knowledge & Skills:

  • Solid understanding of retail operations, stock management, and profit-and-loss principles.

  • Familiarity with fresh meat retail, cold-chain compliance, and food hygiene standards.

  • Demonstrated ability to manage rosters, supervise staff, and handle supplier negotiations.

• Must be available to work full-time (38 hours per week) on a flexible roster including weekends.
