Position Profile and Role
Join the Fremantle Hospital Mental Health Service (FHMHS) as an Aboriginal Mental Health Liaison (AMHL).
We currently have 0.5 FTE part-time vacancy (38 hours per fortnight). This can be filled as a permanent or fixed-term appointment, with the possibility of extensions and/or permanency.
In this role, you will provide timely, culturally appropriate assessment for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander consumers within FHMHS. You will liaise and collaborate with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities and health professionals for the development, planning and implementation of culturally appropriate Mental Health Services. You will also provides cultural consultancy to mental health professionals at FHMHS.

South Metropolitan Health Service (SMHS) Mental Health delivers comprehensive public mental health care through a network of community mental health services, hospitals and community health centres. Across Fiona Stanley Fremantle Hospital Mental Health (FSFH Mental Health) and Peel and Rockingham Kwinana Mental Health (PaRK Mental Health), specialist services are provided across the South Metropolitan region, supporting consumers with accessible, collaborative and high-quality mental health care. SMHS Mental Health will soon open a new state-of-the-art facility at Fremantle Hospital designed to offer expanded and modern mental health services for our community. The three-storey space will provide an additional 40 mental health beds and a 24-hour Mental Health Crisis Centre, ensuring compassionate and innovative care for those who need it most.

Eligibility to Apply
Pursuant of Section 50(d) of the Equal Opportunity Act 1984, the occupant of this position MUST be of Aboriginal descent. To be eligible for appointment, applicants must have valid Australian work rights. This includes visa holders. Permanent appointments may be made to individuals who hold citizenship, permanent residency, or visas that enable ongoing employment in Australia.
WA Health engages staff in positions of trust and responsibility. WA Health policies require applicants to undertake a criminal records screening and integrity checking as part of the appointment process. As well as undertaking a criminal record screening and integrity checking, you may also be required to undertake a working with children check (if required for the role) and a pre-employment health assessment.
