As the largest paediatric health service in Australia, we care for thousands of children each year, in hospital and at home. Our people are united by compassion, collaboration and excellence in care.
Make a difference in the lives of Aboriginal children and families. Join Sydney Children’s Hospitals Network (SCHN) as an Aboriginal Health Worker and play a vital role in delivering culturally safe, holistic, and family-centred care. Working alongside children, families, carers, and multidisciplinary teams, you will provide advocacy, support, and guidance to help families navigate health and community services while ensuring Aboriginal perspectives, culture, and family priorities are embedded in care.
This is a rewarding opportunity to influence positive health outcomes, strengthen cultural safety, and contribute to meaningful change for Aboriginal children, families, and communities.
What you'll be doing
The Aboriginal Health Worker (AHW) will collaborate with patients, carers, and multidisciplinary healthcare teams to provide flexible, holistic, and culturally safe services for Aboriginal children and families accessing the Sydney Children’s Hospitals Network (SCHN). The role ensures care is culturally responsive, strengths-based, and tailored to the unique needs of Aboriginal children, families, and communities, fostering trust, engagement, and improved health outcomes. The AHW will provide culturally informed advocacy and support, assisting families to navigate complex health, social, and community systems, both within the hospital and through connections to local, NSW, and interstate services. The role facilitates communication between families and healthcare providers, ensuring that Aboriginal perspectives,
cultural practices, and family priorities are respected and integrated into care planning. Additionally, the AHW will actively participate in quality improvement, service evaluation, and policy initiatives, to ensure Aboriginal health priorities are appropriately represented and that service delivery is equitable. The position requires strong advocacy, liaison, and stakeholder engagement skills to influence organisational practice, enhance cultural safety, and contribute to improved health outcomes for Aboriginal children and their families. Through leadership, collaboration, and a commitment to culturally safe practice, the AHW supports SCHN in providing care that is respectful, inclusive, and responsive to the holistic needs of Aboriginal children and their families.
Additional Benefits (where applicable): Flexible work opportunities, Salary packaging and meal entertainment benefits, accrued days off (ADOs), fitness passport, employee assistance program (EAP)
