Chief Operating Officer

Perth Observatory – Bickley, WA

We are seeking an experienced and motivated Executive to lead the organisation through its next phase of growth. Reporting to and working closely with the Board, you will provide strategic and operational leadership across visitor services, education programs, staff and volunteers, financial management, stakeholder engagement and the stewardship of our heritage facilities and assets.

About the Role

4 Days a week which may expand to full time and CEO role.

You will:

• Lead the Observatory's daily operations.

• Lead, develop and inspire a dedicated team of employees and volunteers who are passionate about science, education and community engagement.

• Implement strategic priorities and organisational improvements.

• Manage budgets, grant-funded programs and organisational resources while identifying opportunities to strengthen financial sustainability and enhance the visitor experience.

• Build strong relationships with government, education, tourism and community stakeholders.

• Ensure sound governance, risk management and WHS compliance.

About You

You will have:

• Experience in a senior operational or management role.

• Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with a Board or senior leadership team.

• Strong leadership and people management skills.

• Financial management and budgeting experience.

• Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills.

• Experience implementing strategic and operational initiatives.

• Relevant tertiary qualifications or equivalent experience.

• Experience in the not-for-profit, tourism, education or community sectors will be highly regarded.
