Neighbourhood Officer (Affordable Housing)

ABOUT THE ROLE 

As a Neighbourhood Officer, you’ll manage a diverse portfolio of affordable housing tenancies, supporting customers to maintain successful tenancies and contributing to safe, positive neighbourhoods. 

You’ll build relationships, solve problems and manage everything from tenancy compliance and arrears to property, wellbeing and complex customer matters. With home visits, inspections, stakeholder engagement and NCAT matters all part of the mix, this is a role where every day brings something different. 

This is a 6-month opportunity suited to an experienced housing or community services professional who thrives on variety, meaningful customer engagement and managing a diverse caseload. 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES  

• Managing tenancy and neighbourhood matters, including rent and non-rent arrears, breaches, property care and responsible conduct.  
• Building positive relationships with customers and providing clear advice about their rights and responsibilities.  
• Conducting property inspections, home visits and customer wellbeing checks and following up actions.  
• Managing sensitive and complex matters, including domestic and family violence and mandatory reporting, in line with policy and legislation.  
• Managing NCAT matters, including preparing documentation and submissions and representing Hume where required.  
• Maintaining accurate tenancy records and documentation across relevant systems.  
• Working with internal and external stakeholders to resolve issues and achieve positive customer outcomes.  
• Applying the NSW Affordable Housing Ministerial Guidelines, eligibility requirements, legislation and Hume policies to tenancy decisions. 

REQUIREMENTS 

• Experience in community services, housing, tenancy management or a similar environment.  
• An understanding of affordable housing eligibility and rent-setting principles, with the ability to apply the NSW Affordable Housing Ministerial Guidelines.  
• An understanding of the Residential Tenancies Act and NCAT processes.  
• Strong customer service and communication skills, with the ability to engage confidently with a diverse range of customers and stakeholders.  
• The ability to manage sensitive and complex matters with empathy, professionalism and sound judgement.  
• Strong administration and attention to detail, particularly in maintaining accurate records and documentation.  
• Intermediate skills in Microsoft Outlook, Word and Excel.  
• A current NSW Driver Licence and access to an insured vehicle.  
• Checks required: Police Check, Working with Children Check and NDIS Worker Screening Check.
