Leading Hand Carpenter — Decks & Pergolas

HS Outdoor Living builds decks, verandahs and pergolas across Melbourne. We're growing, and we need a Leading Hand Carpenter who can run a crew on site, keep jobs moving, and build to a standard we're proud to put our name on.

This isn't a "keep your head down and cut timber" role. You'll be the one on site making the calls — organising the crew, reading the job, and making sure it's built right the first time.

What you'll be doing

• Running the day-to-day on site as leading hand — organising your crew, sequencing the work, and keeping the job on schedule

• Hands-on construction of decks, pergolas and verandahs, from footings through to final fix

• Reading plans and specs and making sure the build matches them — post and beam sizing, footing depth, roof attachment method

• Keeping the site safe, tidy and compliant

• Liaising with the office and the client on site — flagging issues early, not after they've become expensive

• Mentoring less experienced carpenters and labourers on your crew

What you need

• Cert III in Carpentry (trade qualified)

• Minimum 3 years' experience specifically in decking and pergola construction

• White Card

• Your own tools

• A current driver's licence and reliable transport

• Proven ability to run a small crew — not just work in one

• Someone who takes pride in the finish, not just getting it done
