Through advocacy, education, support services and community engagement, they work to create a more equitable and accessible health system while ensuring Queenslanders receive the support they need throughout their cancer journey.

About the Role

We are seeking an experienced and passionate Senior Policy and Advocacy Advisor to help drive meaningful change across Queensland. This role will lead policy and advocacy initiatives that influence government, shape public policy discussions and amplify the voices of communities impacted by cancer.

This is an opportunity to work at both a strategic and operational level. You'll contribute to submissions, position papers and advocacy campaigns while building relationships with key stakeholders, decision-makers and community representatives. The role is ideal for someone who enjoys translating complex issues into practical, persuasive recommendations that can drive real-world outcomes.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the development and delivery of policy and advocacy priorities across the organisation.
• Monitor government, legislative and sector developments to identify risks, opportunities and emerging issues.
• Prepare submissions, discussion papers, position statements, reports and briefing materials.
• Build and maintain strong relationships with government representatives, sector leaders and key stakeholders.
• Support executive leadership with strategic policy advice and recommendations.
• Gather, synthesise and analyse evidence, data and community insights to inform advocacy positions.
• Represent the organisation in external forums, committees and working groups.
• Evaluate and report on the effectiveness of advocacy initiatives and policy outcomes.

What We're Looking For

• Experience in policy, advocacy, government relations, public health, community services or a related field.
• Exceptional written communication skills, including the ability to prepare high-quality submissions and advocacy materials.
• Strong stakeholder engagement and relationship-building capability.
• Excellent research, analysis and critical thinking skills.
• Ability to influence, negotiate and communicate with a diverse range of stakeholders.
• Understanding of government processes, public policy environments and systems change.
• A collaborative, humble and relationship-focused approach with strong emotional intelligence.
• An understanding of lived experience, equity and the factors that influence access and outcomes for diverse communities.

Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander candidates are strongly encouraged to apply. Experience working with First Nations communities or within community-controlled organisations will be highly regarded.
