About the role
KSC1: A capacity to repair minor building and grounds projects in a timely manner upon notification from the facilities manager
KSC2: Demonstrated proficiency in the safe use, storage and servicing of machinery and equipment relevant to the position.
KSC3: Demonstrated ability to work cooperatively or independently with minimal supervision to maintain buildings and grounds
KSC4: Ability to communicate effectively with a range of people including teachers, education support staff, students, parents and the wider community.
KSC5: Demonstrated commitment to ensure all relevant Occupational Health and Safety regulations are adhered to.
RoleAll aspects of grounds and buildings maintenance will include raking all sandpits, playgrounds and checking play equipment in line with OHS. Mowing, removal of branches, sweeping, blow vaccing, planting, pruning, staking, weeding, mulching, waste and recycle bins, painting minor repairs, (sourcing and ordering materials under the approval of the Principal) furniture/equipment movement, cleaning buses, working with outside contractors when required, assisting with projects (eg: working bees, garden projects, other school activities when required).
Applicants must possess the ability to interpret safety regulations (OH&S) in relation to cleaning materials, paint and the safety instructions for operating any equipment and to report any OH&S issues if unable to fix.
Regular monitoring of facilities for example: drinking taps, plumbing, spouting, downpipes, gutters and drains, locks, heating and cooling systems, emergency cleaning and graffiti removal.
Applicants must have excellent verbal and written communication skills which are essential in the day to day operations of this position, requiring the applicant to report directly to the Principal on a regular basis. Attend and actively participate in meetings as scheduled.
Applicants must participate in staff performance review and identify own professional learning and training needs.
Applicants must hold a current driving licence, and it would be advantageous if other relevant licenses where current (ladder, working at heights, equipment, OH&S etc)
ResponsibilitiesThe responsibilities of this position will be:
Yarrabah School has a position for a Grounds and Maintenance to ensure school facilities remain safe, attractive and secure for all staff and students. The Grounds and Maintenance person is responsible for maintenance of school grounds, buildings, playgrounds and tools. Some minor repairs and maintenance work will be required in this role and it is always expected that tasks are performed using safe work practices.
