About the Organisations

Mutitjulu Community Aboriginal Corporation (MCAC) is the community-controlled organisation representing the Anangu people of Mutitjulu. MCAC delivers programs and services that support community wellbeing, cultural strength, employment, and economic development.

Uluru-Kata Tjuta National Park (UKTNP) is jointly managed by Anangu Traditional Owners and Parks Australia. The Park is internationally recognised for its natural and cultural significance and operates under a framework prioritising Caring for Country, cultural protection, environmental conservation, and sustainable tourism.

Anangu Employment Services Ltd (AES) is a community-based employment services provider supporting Anangu jobseekers and workers through employment placement, onboarding, training coordination, and workforce compliance.

The Mala Ranger Program is delivered in partnership between MCAC, UKTNP and AES to support Anangu employment and engagement in Caring for Culture and Country.

Position Overview

The Mala Ranger Coordinator for Kungas is responsible for the coordination for Kungas (Female Anangu), supervision and administration of the Mala Ranger Program alongside the Mala Ranger Coordinator for Wati (Male Anangu).

The Coordinators directly oversee:

• Up to eight (8) Permanent Part Time (4 female and 4 male) Employees / Participants; and
• Casual Mala Rangers (female and male)

The Coordinators ensure the program aligns with MCAC community priorities and Uluru-Kata Tjuta National Park operational requirements, while maintaining compliance with employment legislation, Award conditions, WHS requirements and funding obligations.

Reporting Line

The Mala Ranger Coordinator for Kungas will report directly to the General Manager of Mutitjulu Community Aboriginal Corporation (MCAC). The Coordinator is accountable to the General Manager for program delivery, workforce management, compliance, reporting obligations, financial oversight, and alignment of the Mala Ranger Program with MCAC strategic priorities and partnership agreements with Uluru-Kata Tjuta National Park and Anangu Employment Services Ltd.

Key Responsibilities

Program Coordination & Delivery

• Coordinate and manage the Mala Ranger Program and associated services.
• Develop and implement weekly work schedules (Monday–Thursday, up to 25 hours per week) aligned with MCAC and UKTNP priorities.
• Work collaboratively with the Male and Female Anangu Team Leaders to allocate tasks and oversee daily operations.
• Deliver ranger activities under direction of Uluru-Kata Tjuta National Park Management, including:
  • Caring for Culture and Country
  • Park Operations and Maintenance
  • Planning and Consultation
  • Training and Administration
• Facilitate ranger participation in park and community engagement activities.
• Attend planning meetings with MCAC and UKTNP.
• Provide regular monthly program updates to MCAC and UKTNP.

Recruitment, Employment & Onboarding

• Recruit, employ and support local Anangu community members as Mala Rangers.
• Support participants through Expressions of Interest and onboarding processes.
• Assist with:
  • Completion of employment and payroll documentation
  • Obtaining Unique Student Identifiers (USIs)
  • Registration and sign-up with Anangu Employment Services Ltd
• Ensure all Rangers:
  • Meet program eligibility requirements
  • Complete AES registration
  • Complete Uluru-Kata Tjuta National Park-specific induction
  • Are paid correctly in accordance with the Miscellaneous Award

Supervision & Workforce Management

• Provide direct joint supervision and coordination with the Wati Coordinator of:
  • Up to eight (8) Permanent Part Time (4 female and 4 male) Employees / Participants; and
  • Casual Mala Rangers (female and male)
• Provide daily transport of participants to and from UKTNP and MCAC worksites.
• Coordinate and manage use of the Mala Ranger bus.
• Maintain vehicle and transport logs.
• Conduct toolbox talks and maintain meeting records.
• Monitor attendance and performance.
• Distribute uniforms and ensure appropriate care and maintenance.
• Support ongoing training and skills development.
• Liaise with Anangu Employment Services Ltd and regional training providers.
• Ensure timesheets are completed accurately and submitted to MCAC on time.

Administration, Compliance & Reporting

• Maintain accurate and up-to-date records including:
  • Participant attendance
  • Weekly schedules
  • Activity logs
  • Photo evidence of activities undertaken
  • Transport logs
  • Induction and safety compliance records
  • Certificates for completed training
• Ensure compliance with:
  • Work Health and Safety (WHS) legislation
  • Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act
  • Employment legislation and Award conditions
• Ensure Rangers are paid in line with the Miscellaneous Award.
• Submit monthly activity and financial reports to the Department of National Parks (DNP).
• Provide regular monthly participation and outcome reports to MCAC and UKTNP.
• Maintain professional communication records with Park Supervisors and MCAC Management.

Selection Criteria

Essential:

• Well-developed communication and interpersonal skills, enabling effective collaboration with UKTNP and MCAC Management and culturally respectful engagement with Anangu participants.
• Applicants must have the legal right to work in Australia (Australian Citizenship, Permanent Residency, or appropriate visa with work rights).
• Demonstrated experience supervising staff or teams
• Experience working in an Aboriginal community
• Strong program coordination and administrative skills
• Understanding of employment compliance and Award conditions
• Knowledge of WHS legislation and safe work practices
• Current Manual Australian Driver’s License
• The ability to drive all types of manual vehicles
• Own reliable vehicle to access Uluru-Kata Tjuta National Park to collect and return the Mala Ranger bus when required
• Northern Territory National Police Check (NPC)
• Northern Territory Working With Children's Clearance - (OCHRE Card)

Desirable:

• LR (Light Rigid) License
• Experience in ranger programs, land management or community development
• Experience working with government agencies or funded programs.

Employment Conditions

• Salary: $80,000 per annum + Superannuation
• 4 weeks Annual Leave per year + 17.5% leave loading

Accommodation is provided in a modern, well-maintained caravan located in Yulara, subject to Ayers Rock Resort Housing rules and regulations:
