Accountant

Hamilton Island is seeking a detail-oriented and motivated Accountant to join our Sydney-based Financial Accounting team on a 12-month fixed-term contract.

Reporting to the Finance Manager, you will help maintain the integrity of our financial data and general ledger, with a particular focus on capital projects and work-in-progress accounts. You will also support financial reporting, reconciliations, accounting processes and system administration across the business.

• Maintain capital work-in-progress accounts in line with approved capital projects.
• Support project managers with queries and the administration of capital and WIP accounts.
• Ensure capital expenditure transactions are accurately recorded and appropriately managed.
• Work closely with departmental and project managers to support accurate financial reporting.

• Prepare reconciliations for selected general ledger accounts as directed by the Finance Manager.
• Prepare and process journals as required.
• Assist with month-end and year-end accounting processes.
• Help maintain the integrity and accuracy of financial data within the general ledger.
• Monitor and process transactions relating to trust accounts.

• Assist the Systems Accountant with the administration of the financial system.
• Liaise with Finance, IT, Hamilton Island Real Estate and other internal stakeholders.
• Support external audit requirements and liaise with auditors as required.
• Assist with financial administration and reporting requirements across the business.

The successful candidate will be a capable and enthusiastic accounting professional with strong attention to detail and the ability to manage competing priorities and deadlines. You will be comfortable working with financial data, communicating with stakeholders and contributing within a diverse and collaborative team.

• A degree or diploma in Accounting or a related discipline
• To be working towards a CPA or CA qualification
• High computer literacy, including advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel
• Strong communication and administration skills
• Excellent attention to detail and a commitment to accuracy
• The ability to work effectively under pressure and meet deadlines
• A collaborative approach and the ability to work within a diverse team
• A friendly, enthusiastic and professional attitude
