$101,498 - $114,243 + (dependent on skills & experience) plus building registration and performance-based building and fire code qualification allowances of up to $22,500 and 12% Superannuation
About the role
The Senior Building Control Officer offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to the safety, compliance and amenity of Melbourne’s built environment. The team is responsible for delivering statutory building services in accordance with the Building Act, Building Regulations, Local Laws and relevant standards.
In this role, you will support the Municipal Building Surveyor and broader Building Control team to deliver enforcement, audit, permit and inspection activities and help City of Melbourne meet its statutory obligations under the Building Act 1993. You'll work across a diverse range of building regulatory matters, undertaking inspections and investigations, assessing permits and technical documentation, providing regulatory advice and supporting effective compliance and enforcement outcomes.
A little more about the role
Deliver statutory building control services, including regulatory assessments, inspections, investigations, audits, permit processing and compliance activities.
Assess building-related documentation, including building permits, modifications, dispensations, appeals, performance solutions and Place of Public Entertainment permits.
Undertake enforcement activities under the Building Act and provide professional regulatory advice to customers, building practitioners and internal and external stakeholders.
Contribute to best-practice building control processes, accurate reporting and continuous improvement across the Building Control Group.

About you
You are an experienced building professional who brings sound judgement, strong technical knowledge and a customer-focused approach to complex regulatory matters. You’re confident working independently, navigating challenging situations and providing clear and practical advice to a broad range of stakeholders.
What your experience might look like
Qualifications in Building Surveying and minimum registration as a Building Practitioner with the Building and Plumbing Commission in the category of Building Inspector-Limited or Building Surveyor-Limited, as outlined in the Position Description.
Comprehensive knowledge of building legislative procedures and experience working with multi-storey, heritage and/or older buildings.
Demonstrated experience undertaking building audits and inspections and administering and enforcing the Building Act, Building Regulations and relevant Local Laws within a Council environment.
Strong experience resolving complex disputes, exercising sound judgement and managing difficult customer matters with limited supervision.
Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to prepare clear and accurate reports for management and Council.
