About the role
At Parkglen Retirement Village, we’ve been putting people first for over 40 years. As a trusted, not-for-profit, member-owned community, our mission is to enable ageing in place by providing high-quality, affordable, and unpretentious retirement living that truly feels like home.
Join our welcoming retirement community as our Weekend Cook and make a real difference in residents' lives by preparing nutritious, high-quality meals that enhance residents' wellbeing and quality of life. This role is ideal for someone who takes pride in creating food that brings comfort, joy, and connection to older adults.
The Position:
Food Preparation
Prepare and cook high‑quality meals and baked goods for approximately 30 residents (lunch and dinner).
Ensure all meals meet dietary needs and cultural requirements.
Consistently present meals that are appetising and appealing.
Cater for occasional functions and special events for up to 100 people.
Food safety:
Ensure full compliance with food safety regulations, including safe food handling, temperature monitoring, cleaning schedules, and allergen management.
Kitchen & Equipment Management
Always maintain a clean, organised and hygienic kitchen.
Resident Engagement
Build positive relationships with residents and welcome feedback and menu suggestions.
Support social engagement through enjoyable culinary experiences.
Teamwork & Collaboration
Provide guidance and support to weekend kitchen staff to ensure efficient daily operations.
Contribute to a positive, supportive village culture reflecting Parkglen’s values.
Skills, Experience & Qualifications
Trade qualification in Commercial Cookery (or equivalent).
Demonstrated experience as a cook, ideally in aged care, community settings, hospitality, or institutional food services.
Strong knowledge of food safety requirements and allergen management.
Excellent communication and customer-service skills, particularly with older adults.
Ability to work independently and supervise a small team efficiently.
High level of organisation, cleanliness, and attention to detail.
Ability to obtain and maintain a National Criminal History Check, First Aid & CPR
