About the role

Varsity Smiles is seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Dental Assistant to join our practice in Varsity Lakes, QLD. This is a full-time position that plays a vital role in delivering exceptional patient care and supporting our clinical team. As a Dental Assistant, you will be the backbone of our practice operations, ensuring smooth clinical workflows, maintaining high standards of sterilisation and infection control, and creating a welcoming environment for our patients. This position offers the opportunity to make a meaningful difference in patients' oral health whilst working alongside experienced dental professionals in a supportive and collaborative team environment.

What you'll be doing

• Assisting dentists during clinical procedures and treatments, including chairside support for examinations, fillings, extractions and other dental work

• Preparing treatment rooms, sterilizing instruments and ensuring all equipment is ready for patient appointments

• Recording patient medical and dental histories, updating patient records and maintaining accurate documentation

• Providing chairside support and reassurance to patients, helping to alleviate anxiety and create a positive experience

• Managing patient scheduling, confirming appointments and handling administrative tasks

• Maintaining strict infection control and sterilisation protocols to ensure a safe clinical environment

• Assisting with patient education on oral hygiene and post-operative care instructions

• Restocking supplies and maintaining inventory of clinical materials

• Supporting the practice team with reception duties as required

What we're looking for

• A recognized Dental Assistant qualification or formal training in dental assisting

• Strong knowledge of infection control, sterilization procedures and occupational health and safety standards relevant to dental practice

• Experience working in a dental practice environment, with demonstrated competency in chairside assistance

• Proficiency in dental practice management software and computer systems

• Excellent communication skills and a patient-focused approach to care

• The ability to work effectively within a team and respond positively to direction

• Strong attention to detail and organisational skills

• A commitment to maintaining confidentiality and professional standards

• The ability to remain calm under pressure and manage multiple tasks efficiently

• Current CPR certification or willingness to obtain it

• A valid driver's licence and reliable transport to access our Varsity Lakes location is desirable
