About the role
Mermed is an Australian manufacturer of compliant medical labelling, sterilisation consumables, and stainless-steel workstations, supplying hospitals, pharmacies, veterinary clinics, laboratories, and healthcare providers across Australia and internationally.
We operate certified ISO quality systems and place strong emphasis on patient safety, accuracy, teamwork, and continuous improvement. Our production team plays a critical role in ensuring products are manufactured correctly, consistently, and in full compliance with regulatory and customer requirements.
The Production Machine Operator is responsible for operating production equipment and performing manufacturing tasks accurately and efficiently in line with approved work instructions, quality standards, and production requirements.
This role exists to ensure:
Production machines run safely and efficiently throughout the shift.
Products are manufactured accurately to specification.
Quality standards and traceability requirements are met at all times.
Production schedules are achieved without compromising safety or accuracy.
Issues are identified early and escalated appropriately.
Production capability is strengthened through cross-training and workforce flexibility.
Within six months, the successful candidate will be trained, assessed, and competent to independently operate a minimum of three designated production machines while consistently meeting safety, quality, and productivity standards.
Operate assigned production machines in accordance with standard work instructions, safety requirements, and quality standards.
Learn and progressively become competent on multiple production machines, achieving competency on at least three machines within six months of commencement.
Accurately set up, run, and monitor production jobs, escalating issues or abnormalities immediately.
Perform in-process quality checks and document results as required by ISO procedures.
Complete production records accurately.
Support changeovers, cleaning, preventative maintenance activities, and end-of-shift shutdown procedures.
Work collaboratively with all teams to ensure materials are available and issues are resolved promptly.
Maintain a clean, organised, and safe work area using 3S and Lean principles.
Contribute improvement ideas that support efficiency, quality, and risk reduction.
Provide flexibility across production areas as skills and competency increase.

Flexographic Press
Digital Press
Die-Cutter
Slitter Rewinder
+ a number of smaller production and finishing machines as required
Experience working in a production, manufacturing, or process-driven environment.
Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.
Ability to follow standard operating procedures and work instructions.
Mechanical aptitude and willingness to learn new machinery and processes.
Willingness to speak up and escalate issues early.
Ability to work reliably as part of a team and independently when required.
Physically capable of production duties, including standing, manual handling, and repetitive tasks.
Experience in a regulated or ISO-certified manufacturing environment.
Experience operating manufacturing or production equipment.
Familiarity with quality inspection and documentation requirements.
Exposure to Lean manufacturing, 3S, or continuous improvement practices.
