About the role
This is a Permanent or Fixed Term appointment at 30.4 hours per fortnight, with the possibility of extension and/or permanency.
The Rehabilitation Engineering Clinic is part of the Rehabilitation Technology Unit (RTU) which operates at Royal Perth Hospital and the State Rehabilitation Service at Fiona Stanley Hospital.
We are seeking a Technician, (Fitter Machinist / Toolmaker or similar) - to work within a multidisciplinary team which includes Rehabilitation Engineers, Occupational Therapists, Nurse and other Technical Officers (skill sets ranging from fitter machinists to electricians). The applicant will be responsible for modification and maintenance support for wheelchair and seating systems provided to patients to facilitate rehabilitation and discharge.
The successful applicant will require a relevant post-secondary qualification (AQF 3 or similar); demonstrate competence and experience in modifying, fitting, fault finding, repair, safety checking and the quality assurance of light mechanical and electrical equipment. Have well-developed interpersonal, communication, organisational, negotiation skills and a willingness to work with patients. Experience or sound knowledge of contemporary principles and practices used in the design, manufacture and repair of wheelchair and seating appliances is an advantage but not necessary as on the job training will be provided.
This position requires working across Royal Perth and Fiona Stanley Hospital and occasional inter-site travel may be required.
Whilst this selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy, applicants found suitable for this position may be considered for other ‘similar’ vacancies within EMHS and/or the wider WA public sector. In addition to this, should the successful applicant decline or vacate the advertised vacancy, then the next most suitable applicant may also be selected from this process. Both of these options remain valid for a period of twelve (12) months from when the authorised delegate endorses the recruitment decision.
