About the role 

We are looking for a part time medical receptionist to work approximately 25-35 hours per week. We welcome applications from candidates of all genders.

The role of a medical receptionist is varied, at times challenging but always rewarding. 

This role will see the successful applicant working permanent shifts at Southern Cross Medical Centre.

Main Duties and responsibilities:

• Greeting, assisting and registering new patients,

• Handling telephone enquiries and making appointments

• Processing payments and Medicare claims

• Scanning documents

• Helping patients in distress by responding to emergencies.

• Protecting patients’ rights by maintaining confidentiality of medical, personal, and financial information

• Maintaining operations by following policies and procedures, reporting needed changes.

• Following up on outstanding results and correspondence

• General administrative duties as required

• Assisting with accounts 

• Maintaining professional rapport with all patients and health professionals

• Any duties requested of the employee by a doctor or a senior staff member

• Any other duties as requested by the practice manager

• Ensuring the reception area is well maintained, neat and clean.

• Excellent computer skills 

• Reliability with a strong work ethic 

• Outstanding customer service skills

• Ability to work under pressure and in a fast paced environment

• Ability to prioritise and multitask 

• Excellent communication skills and telephone manner 

• Self motivated and proactive 

• Ability to work autonomously and in a team environment

• Demonstrated initiative and willingness to learn

• Knowledge of general administrative duties

Desirable skills and experience:

• Previous reception experience

• Experience with medical software Best Practice
