About the Role 

We are seeking an experienced Operations Manager – Engineering Monitoring to lead our Engineering Controller team within the Response and Engineering Monitoring (REM) function. This is a critical leadership role supporting the safe, reliable and fully automated operation of Sydney’s metro rail network.

Reporting to the Head of Response & Engineering Monitoring, you will lead, develop and continuously improve a team of up to 12 Engineering Controllers operating in a 24/7 safety‑critical environment. You will play a key role in real‑time network monitoring, electrical network operations, emergency response, and the coordination of maintenance and engineering works.

This role is essential to maintaining a safe, customer‑focused and high‑performing rail service while meeting MTS operational, safety and compliance requirements.

Key Responsibilities include:

• Lead, coach and develop a high‑performing Engineering Controller team

• Coordinate possession planning, maintenance activities and engineering works
• Provide oversight of HV electrical network monitoring, alarm response and restoration activities
• Support switching, permit management and Engineering Controller coverage as required
• Liaise with internal and external stakeholders including service providers
• Support audits, investigations, continuous improvement and business performance forums

• Demonstrate visible safety leadership and embed a strong safety culture
• Ensure compliance with WHS legislation, MTS Safety Management System and environmental requirements
• Support asset protection, BYDA requests and asset information management

• Provide workforce planning oversight for 24/7 operations

About You 

You are a confident operational leader with experience in HV and LV electrical networks, rail, transport or a similar safety‑regulated environment.

You thrive in complex, real‑time operational settings and are comfortable leading teams through both routine operations and high‑pressure incidents.

You will also possess the following:

• Minimum Diploma qualification in Electrical discipline: or
• Recognised qualification in a relevant Engineering discipline and recognition of prior learning by an MTS-approved Registered Training Organisation, to a Diploma level equivalent qualification.
• Experience in managing and leading a diverse and high-performing team of technical staff in a Safety-critical 24hr environment.
• Electrical Licence highly regarded.
