About the role
About Perth Racing
Perth Racing (the trading name of the Western Australian Turf Club) is the premier thoroughbred racing club in WA, operating both Ascot and Belmont Park racecourses. As a multi-faceted racing, entertainment and event business, we stage up to 100 race meetings per year, including the high-profile Melbourne Cup Day, Perth Cup, The Quokka and The Pinnacles series.
The Role & The Opportunity
Perth Racing is seeking a Junior AV Technician to join the Production and AV department for a diverse role in assisting in the operation and maintenance of on-course audio and visual systems.
This is an excellent opportunity for someone starting their AV career to gain broad, hands-on experience across live events, racing and venue technology. You will work alongside an experienced team and gain exposure to a range of professional AV systems and production environments.
Responsibilities
Key responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:
Operations of audio & visual systems under direction on race day and at some non-race day functions
Assisting in testing, maintenance and upgrades to installed AV systems
Setup of AV equipment for race day and non-race day events
Assisting with the operation and technical support for operating systems and all AV equipment/setups on race day and non-race day
Assisting in installation of cabling, equipment and fault finding
Liaison with the outside broadcast team to ensure on-course requirements are met.
Working Pattern
This role is being offered on permanent full time basis on a Tuesday to Saturday work pattern with additional flexibility around major events where required.
About You
As the ideal candidate, you will have:
A qualification in, or be currently studying towards, a technical discipline such as Audio Engineering, Audio Visual, Video Production or a related field.
A genuine interest in audio visual technology and a desire to develop your skills and experience in a professional live events environment.
A basic understanding of AV/IT principles, including audio and video signal flow, cabling, connectivity and equipment setup.
A practical and hands-on approach, with an ability to follow instructions, learn new systems and assist with troubleshooting and fault finding.
Good communication skills and the confidence to work with both technical and non-technical personnel.
A positive and reliable attitude, with a willingness to work as part of a team and contribute to the successful delivery of race day and other events.
Good attention to detail and the ability to remain calm and focused when working in a busy event environment.
A willingness to work flexible hours, including race days, weekends and early starts as required.
Previous experience in a professional AV, events or venue environment would be advantageous but is not essential. Experience with professional vision switching, video routing, PA systems or other live production equipment would also be highly regarded.
