It’s an exciting time to join the Strategic Planning Team at the City of Fremantle. We’ve got a huge volume of unique and interesting work stemming from our draft of a new Local Planning Scheme. This is a chance to work on a significant new strategic planning framework that will set the direction of the City for years to come.
Projects include the creation of a new Precinct Structure Plan for the City Centre, a new suite of planning policies, and a significant review of heritage matters. We’re seeking people who are open to new ideas and willing to innovate in the face of social, environmental and economic challenges. We’re particularly interested if you have experience in project management on significant structure plans or other large-scale strategic instruments.
With all the unique projects in the works – and more we haven’t even thought of yet! – the Senior Strategic Planning Officer will be on the forefront of ensuring Fremantle retains its prestige role as Perth’s second city.
Key ResponsibilitiesResearch and create significant new strategic planning instruments such as a Precinct Structure Plan and local planning policies to support the draft scheme.
Provide accurate professional advice to internal and external stakeholders.
Lead and/or assist multidisciplinary project teams in carrying out strategic planning, sustainability, design and heritage projects to improve the City’s planning framework.
Support the Team Leader – Strategic Planning and Heritage in the delivery of strategic planning services in line with Council’s strategic planning objectives.
With the assistance of the team, plan and carry out community consultation, stakeholder workshops, Council presentations, and the like as needed.
To be considered for this position, you will need
Demonstrated practical experience in the town planning profession and complex strategic planning matters.
Sound knowledge and understanding of planning, urban design and sustainability principles and practices.
Sound knowledge of the operation of a local government authority regarding urban planning.
High-level written, oral communication skills and report-writing skills.
Excellent customer service, organisational and interpersonal skills.
Degree or post graduate qualification in town planning.
Project management leadership experience on structure plans or other significant strategic projects is an advantage.
